The Northern Christians Accord (NCA) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and probe former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai over alleged misappropriation of N423 billion.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In a statement signed by Barr. Gideon Jato and Bro. Sunday Adoka, President and Secretary respectively of the NCA, the group expressed concern over the EFCC’s inaction despite the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s indictment of El-Rufai and his officials for embezzlement.
The Kaduna State Assembly’s ad-hoc committee had accused El-Rufai and his cabinet of corruption in contract awards and management of domestic and foreign loans. The committee’s report revealed evidence of widespread corruption in the state government from 2015 to 2023.
The NCA criticized the EFCC for selective justice, noting that the agency has pursued other political figures while ignoring El-Rufai’s case. The group threatened to create awareness about the EFCC’s complacency and mobilize its members to protest at the EFCC headquarters if no action is taken.
“We perceive this as an affront and total disregard to the rule of law and a great insult to the sensibility of the people of Kaduna State, especially the institution of the State House of Assembly,” the statement read.
The group questioned the EFCC’s failure to act on the petitions submitted by various groups, including the Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance (KCWGG), which petitioned the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in July 2024.
