The National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Enugu State chapter, has condemned the rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in the South East, particularly in Enugu and Anambra States.

In a statement signed by the President, Anthonia Chichi Ogbu, the NCWS lamented the devastating impact of GBV on women and girls, who are being assaulted, raped, and murdered with impunity.

The organization declared that “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” and demanded justice for victims, punishment for perpetrators, and protection for the vulnerable.

“We mourn the loss of innocence, the shattering of dreams, and the crushing of spirits. GBV has become a pandemic, spreading its dark tentacles across our communities, leaving devastation in its wake,” President Ogbu said.

The NCWS called on governments, traditional rulers, community leaders, and all stakeholders to join forces in combating GBV. The organization urged for increased funding for GBV prevention and response programs, strengthening of laws and policies to protect women and girls, enhanced community sensitization and education, and support for survivors.

The statement emphasized the need for collective action to break the silence, shatter the stigma, and create a society where women and girls can live without fear.

“Rise with us, and let our collective voices echo across the land: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Together, we can create a society where women and girls can live without fear,” President Ogbu added.

The NCWS’s call to action is a clarion call to all stakeholders to join forces in combating GBV and promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and equality for all.
