ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES COMPREHENSIVE VERIFICATION EXERCISE FOR RETIREES’ GRATUITY PAYMENTS

The Enugu State Government has announced a verification exercise for retirees’ gratuity payments, as part of the state’s effort to eradicate poverty.

According to a statement signed by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on behalf of the Enugu State Government, the verification exercise is designed to update and validate the records of retirees and next of kin, ensure that only legitimate beneficiaries receive their gratuity payments, eliminate fraud and discrepancies, and create a reliable database for future reference.

The exercise, which is scheduled to commence on Monday, February 24, 2025, will be conducted in phases, with specific dates assigned to different groups of retirees and next of kin.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

The verification exercise is open to all retirees who are yet to receive their gratuity payments, as well as next of kin of deceased retirees who are due for gratuity or related entitlements.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

To participate in the verification exercise, retirees and next of kin are required to come with the following documents:

1. Notice of Retirement

2. Pension Form and Pension Authority

3. Letter of First Appointment

4. Last Promotion Letter

5. Bank Verification Number (BVN)

6. National Identification Number (NIN)

7. 2 Recent Passport Photographs

8. Payslip or Statement of Account for at least 5 years

9. Death Certificate (for Next of Kin)

10. Letter of Administration/Affidavit

11. Any Other Relevant Documents

VERIFICATION SCHEDULE

The verification exercise will be conducted in the following phases:

– Phase 1: February 24 – March 10, 2025 – Retirees from specific ministries and LGAs

– Phase 2: March 11 – March 25, 2025 – Next of kin of deceased retirees

– Phase 3: March 26 – April 2, 2025 – Mop-up exercise for those who missed earlier phases

– Phase 4: April 3 – April 17, 2025 – Collation and compilation of beneficiaries and submission of report

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PENSIONERS ABROAD OR HOSPITALIZED

Retirees who are unable to attend the verification exercise in person due to being abroad or hospitalized are required to follow these steps:

1. Provide a signed affidavit or letter of consent authorizing a representative to submit their documents on their behalf.

2. Ensure that all required documents are submitted by their authorized representative to the verification team.

3. Email scanned copies of all necessary documents to verifygratuity@gmail.com.

VERIFICATION VENUES

The main venue for the verification exercise is the Enugu State College of Education, Technical, starting at 8:00 am daily. Additional venues will be announced for remote areas.

IMPORTANT NOTES

– All participants must come with original documents and photocopies.

– Ensure accurate bank account details.

– Arrive early and follow verification officers’ instructions.

– Adhere to assigned dates and venues.
