Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi In December 2023, Raised Motion Of Urgent Importance On Ehamufu Killings

The Media Team of Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi has been compelled to respond to a disparaging publication on Facebook authored by Odo Godfrey Chikwere, which falsely accused Senator Kelvin Chukwu and Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi of neglecting the security challenges in Eha-Amufu, Isi Uzo Local Government Area.

The publication’s inaccuracies suggest that the writer was either uninformed about the issue, which gained prominence in December 2023, or motivated by malice.

Contrary to the writer’s claims, Hon. Professor Nnamchi raised a motion of urgent importance on the Eha-Amufu killings on the floor of the House of Representatives in December 2023. The House unanimously adopted the motion, urging the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Inspector-General of Police to deploy more security personnel to Eha-Amufu and investigate the incessant killings and kidnappings.

Furthermore, the House directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to supply relief materials to the affected victims. As a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Army, Professor Nnamchi followed up on the resolution with the office of the Chief of Army Staff, prompting the then Chief of Army Staff’s visit to Enugu and his promise to establish an Army Barracks in Eha-Amufu.

Professor Nnamchi also issued a strongly worded press statement in December 2024 reminding the relevant security agencies of the need to step up their operations in Eha-Amufu.

To verify these facts, we refer you to the following media reports:

  • “Lawmakers Seek Urgent Action To Address Insecurity In Enugu State” by Gloria Essien, Abuja (Voice of Nigeria online, December 4, 2024)
  • “Enugu attacks: Reps urge FG to intensify efforts against insecurity in S/E” (Vanguard Newspaper, December 4, 2024)
  • “Task FG to address insecurity in South East” by Ndubisi Orji (Sun Newspaper, December 5, 2024)

These reports confirm that Professor Nnamchi has been proactive in addressing the security challenges in Eha-Amufu and other parts of the constituency.

We urge Godfrey and others concerned about the security situation in Eha-Amufu to conduct thorough research and recognize Hon. Professor Nnamchi’s efforts as a pragmatic representative who has significantly improved the constituency.

Regarding the protest by women in Eha-Amufu, Professor Nnamchi’s office did not receive any official communication from the protesters. As he is based in Abuja, it is unreasonable to expect him to respond to a protest without formal notification.

We hope this rejoinder has set the record straight and provided a more accurate representation of Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi’s commitment to addressing the security challenges in Eha-Amufu.
