The visit was part of efforts to deepen the drive for a new era of productivity among local government staff.

Barr. Ogbodo reminded staff of the bold vision of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, to grow the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to over $30 billion within the next six years.

Describing this as a “tall ambition,” Barr. Ogbodo emphasized that its realization would require a collective commitment to increased productivity across all sectors. He underscored the importance of division of labor and specialization as key tools to drive economic growth.

According to Barr. Ogbodo, the workforce will undergo targeted retraining programs to align with areas where they possess natural talents and comparative advantages. The state government has also proposed that each local government earmark 40,000 hectares of farmland. Staff will be organized into cooperative groups, specializing in specific crops such as cassava, groundnut, yam, and vegetables.

The produce from these cooperatives will be sold, with proceeds shared between the workers and the government. This initiative aims to create a win-win situation, boosting local productivity while improving livelihoods and enhancing internally generated revenue.
