In a bid to strengthen grassroots governance and ensure effective service delivery, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uche Joseph Okolo, has announced the appointment of a new set of Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Advisers (SPAs).

The appointments, which were made public on April 11th, 2025, saw the emergence of a new team of aides who will work closely with the Chairman to drive the development agenda of the local government.

A key highlight of the appointments was the official naming of Mr. Desmond Akpa, the younger brother of a late gallant police officer who died in active service, as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Chairman.

This appointment is not only a recognition of Desmond’s capabilities but also a tribute to his late brother’s sacrifice for peace and security in the area.
In addition to the appointment, Hon. Uche Okolo has awarded Mr. Desmond Akpa a full scholarship to study any course of his choice at any higher institution in Nigeria, covering him until graduation.
This noble gesture reflects the Chairman’s deep commitment to remembering the sacrifices of heroes and supporting their families.
Speaking during the appointments, Hon. Okolo stated: “Each person appointed today was chosen for a progressive administrative purpose. My administration believes in service delivery, teamwork, and achieving tangible results. This is our home. And we must all take part in building it.”

He further emphasized that appointments are not rewards but responsibilities, calling on the new aides to put in their best for the good of the people.

“We will continue to run a government with a listening ear, one that responds positively and delivers results. We don’t just talk the talk — we work the talk,” Hon. Okolo said.
The Chairman congratulated all the newly appointed aides and reaffirmed his administration’s mission of building a better and more prosperous Awgu for all.

“Awgu belongs to us all. Let us keep working together to make it greater. Tomorrow is Here!” Hon. Okolo added.
The appointments and the scholarship award have been widely commended by stakeholders in the area, who see it as a demonstration of the Chairman’s commitment to the welfare of the people and the development of the local government.
