ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT TO IMMORTALISE LATE FOOTBALL LEGEND, CHRISTIAN CHUKWU

The Enugu State government has assured that it will immortalise the late football legend and administrator, Christian Chukwu, who passed away on Saturday, April 12.

This assurance was given by the Commissioner, Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, while commiserating with the family of the late football icon at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. Ekweremadu, who condoled with the family on behalf of the state government, expressed sadness at the demise of Chukwu.

According to Ekweremadu, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has directed that a committee be set up to immortalise Chukwu, who made the Igbo people proud after the traumatic civil war and brought glory to Nigeria.

“Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has directed that a committee should be set up to immortalise Chairman Christian Chukwu, for making Igbos proud after the traumatic civil war and for bringing glory to Nigeria,” Ekweremadu said.

The commissioner noted that the late football legend left a big gap that will be difficult to fill, adding that he inspired a lot of people through his service to Nigeria and his unmatched humility.

“The sports family is in deep mourning. He inspired a lot of us through his service to Nigeria and his unmatched humility,” Ekweremadu explained.

In his speech, the General Manager of Rangers Management Corporation, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, who worked with Chukwu, described him as unassuming, humble, and forthright. Ezeaku noted that Chukwu was a father figure whose fountain of knowledge helped him even after leaving office as General Manager.

“I worked with Christian Chukwu as Team Manager, while he was General Manager of Rangers Management Corporation. I found him unassuming, humble, forthright, and as a father, whose fountain of knowledge helped me even after leaving office as General Manager,” Ezeaku said.

Ezeaku added that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah had asked them to keep in touch with old Rangers players, which they had been doing. He noted that Rangers had been celebrating Chukwu’s legacy even while he was alive, with his image engraved on the wall of their office.

“Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah asked that we keep in touch with old Rangers players. We have been doing that. We have been celebrating Christian Chukwu while he was alive at Rangers Office; his image is engraved on the wall. We will keep celebrating him even in death,” Ezeaku stated.

He assured that Rangers would do their best to immortalise Chukwu. “At Rangers, we will do our best to immortalise him,” Ezeaku said.
