The Board Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Hyginus Banko Okibe, in his opening remarks, said that the administration of His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has prioritized teachers’ welfare and will continue to give attention to teachers’ professional development, particularly the teachers in Public Schools in the State through teaching career revolution.

Assoc. Prof. Okibe said that the Board is poised to do everything within its powers and resources to implement the instructions and directives of the Governor towards sustaining teachers’ commitment to quality service delivery, including payment of their salaries, which suffered some setbacks because of the ongoing teacher verification exercise and bank-related issues.

The Executive Chairman noted that in the past, teachers were interviewed at their various Local Government areas with all the flaws in the process. It has resulted in the Board shifting the venue to its Headquarters to correct those unprofessional practices, meet the teachers one-on-one, address their individual problems, and above all, verify their certificates and know those still in service.

He stated that the Board, in its wisdom, thought it wise to invite seasoned educationist professionals from the ENSUBEB training institutions as panelists to conduct the interview and appealed to the teachers and nonteaching staff to cooperate with them by conducting themselves very well as responsible teachers.

Assoc. Prof. Okibe explained that as professionals with unstained credentials and enviable track records with fear of God, the panelists will not harass or victimize anyone (which could be possible if ENSUBEB Staff was presiding) but will ensure that they (teachers and nonteaching staff) are properly drilled to bring out the intellectual property in them to qualify for the next level in their career growth path.

He reminded the teachers and nonteaching staff that the old order has changed to a new order, and everyone must embrace Digital technology-based teaching. The recent verification exercise revealed a lot of issues/anomalies in the school system, especially those that manipulated their retirement age, and urged the teachers to do the needful on self-development to fit into the Smart Green School program.

The ENSUBEB Boss reminded the staff that beginning from 6th June to July 2025, all public school teachers in Enugu State will participate in qualifying exams for teachers who will migrate to Smart Green Schools. He advised them to start to update their knowledge of digital literacy and their professional subject specialty to be able to key in and save themselves from the stress associated with the new technology-driven system.

He told the teachers that as they began a journey into a new position, it called for increased responsibility and appealed to them to remain steadfast in the discharge of their duties. The Chairman, therefore, wished them success at the interview.

About one hundred teachers from Aninri Local Government Area and others from various LGAs are taking their turn for the interview which involves several thousand teachers across the 17 LGAs in the state.
