In a shocking incident, three policemen were brutally killed by unknown gunmen along Achi-Awgu Road on May 1, 2025. The lawmaker representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. (Dr) Anayo Onwuegbu, has condemned the attack in the strongest terms, describing it as “a killing too many.”

Hon. Onwuegbu expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and the Nigerian Police Force. He commiserated with the Awgu Local Government Chairman, in whose domain the killings took place, and called on the police to reassess their operational responsibilities and adopt a more combat-effective strategy during routine operations.
The lawmaker also urged the general public to be more responsive in volunteering information about suspicious characters and activities. “An attack on security operatives is an attack on the entire sovereignty of the nation,” he emphasized. “Let us all rise to condemn this and mobilize our consciousness towards reducing crime and criminality in our Federal Constituency.”
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of security personnel and the general public in the area. Hon. Onwuegbu’s call for a reassessment of security strategies is seen as a timely intervention to prevent further attacks.
The Nigerian Police Force has been urged to take immediate action to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. “UNKNOWN GUNMEN ATTACK ON POLICEMEN TOO MANY !!!
I am saddened by the news of yet another tragic killing of police men today by unknown gunmen in our Federal Constituency, this time along Achi-Awgu Road.
My heart goes out to the fallen policemen and their families as well as the Nigerian Police force in general. About 3pm today 1st May 2025, the life of three police officers on routine duty were cut short as they were killed by unknown assailants who escaped through Awgunta road to unknown location.
This is a killing too many and must be made to stop by all and sundry, police force, the Military and extra military forces please As I commiserate with Awgu Local Government Chairman in whose domain today’s killings took place, I extend my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the victims families.
I call on the Nigerian police force to reassess their operational responsibilities and adopt a more combat strategy during their routine operations. The general public is also urged to be more responsive in volunteering information about suspicious characters and people. An attack on the security operatives is certainly an attack on the entire sovereignty of us all.
