The Enugu State Government has further demonstrated its commitment to development with the commissioning of more rural electrification projects and the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Primary Health Care (PHC) center in Enugu East Local Government Area. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and provide essential services to the people.

Residents of Edem Nike in Ibagwa/Edem ward, Ugboenyi community in Trans Ekulu ward, and Nkpologwu community in Mbulu Judo West ward witnessed the commissioning of new 500 KVA transformers and the laying of the foundation for a PHC center. The atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement, as children, youths, women, and the elderly all chanted solidarity songs and cheered the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and the Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike.

At Aguoja community, a brand new 500 KVA transformer was commissioned for use. The transformer will supply electricity to the community and other adjoining layouts in the Enugu East council headquarters environs. The Governor’s representative, Chief Barr. Nana Ogbodo, who was accompanied by Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke and other commissioners of the Local Government Service Commission, performed the commissioning ceremony. The chairman of the community expressed appreciation to the government, saying, “When the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice. By what you have done for us, we have seen that you are a man of God. We say thank you, and your second term is assured.”

The Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, explained how the ongoing revolution in rural electrification began in the council area. “You may recall that upon my assumption of office as the Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, we called for a meeting with community leaders to ascertain their immediate needs, which will form part of projects,” he stated. “From that engagement, we arrived at the decision to procure 12 new 500 KVA transformers, with additional 3 transformers to energize for other communities who have procured for themselves but were yet to energize it.” He assured the people that the local government is committed to catching up with the state government’s development pace.

Chief Barr. Nana Ogbodo praised Engr. Beloved-Dan for understanding the “Tomorrow Is Here” mantra, which emphasizes starting work today rather than delaying it. “One person who understands the Tomorrow Is Here mantra very well is Engr. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike,” he said. “If all 17 Local Governments do the same way you are doing, Enugu will be developed.” He congratulated the Mayor of Enugu East, saying, “Congratulations Beloved-Dan, you understand that mantra, and His Excellency will be happy.”
The commissioning of the Ugboenyi electricity substation fulfilled a promise made during the electioneering campaign. The Councillor of Trans Ekulu ward, Hon. Chiedozie Samson, expressed appreciation for the project, saying, “It was during the electioneering campaign that the people of Ugboenyi made an appeal for the transformer, and the Executive Chairman, then the Chairmanship candidate of the PDP, promised that it will be an abomination that after his first year in office, any community in Enugu East, be it an urban or rural, will be disconnected from electricity supply.” Mrs. Ajah, a woman representative, thanked the Mayor for the project and prayed for God’s blessings and wisdom upon him.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Type 1 PHC center at Nkpologwu community marked another milestone in the government’s efforts to improve healthcare services. The facility will feature male and female wards, an outpatient department, laboratory services, and solar lighting, and is expected to be completed within three months.
The Chairman of Nkpologwu community, Mr. Chukwubuchukwu, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman for remembering the Nkpologwu community.

The Mayor of Enugu East LGA assured the people of Nkpologwu community that the State Government is committed to the development of Enugu State, citing the numerous projects being done in all 260 wards. “This makes it a total of 4 of such health facilities currently constructed by the Enugu East Local Government ably led by Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike’s led administration,” he stated.

The consultant for Enugu East Local Government explained that the Primary Health Care center will feature male and female wards, an outpatient department, laboratory services, and solar lighting. “The facility will be completed and become functional in 3 months’ time,” he stated.

The Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, expressed gratitude to the consultant and assured the people that the State Government is committed to the development of Enugu State. He cited the numerous projects being done in all 260 wards as evidence of this commitment.

The Mayor further assured the people of Nkpologwu community that the local government is dedicated to improving the lives of its citizens. “This makes it a total of 4 of such health facilities currently constructed by the Enugu East Local Government,” he said.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Hon. Engr. Kingsley Obi Anike, the Leader of Enugu East Legislative Council, Hon. Obed Obumneme Eke, the Secretary to Enugu East Local Government, Barr. Uche Mbaeke, the Supervisors for Works, Health, Education, and Finance, the SPA on Political Matters, Hon. Bethrand Anike, the SPA on Agric Business and Farm Estates, and the SSA on Project Development and Implementation, Hon. Engr. Mascot Agbo, amongst others.
As the ceremony came to a close, the residents of Enugu East LGA looked forward to enjoying the benefits of the new electricity substations and the Primary Health Care center. The government’s initiatives were seen as a step in the right direction towards improving the lives of its citizens. With the “Tomorrow Is Here” mantra guiding the government’s actions, the people of Enugu East LGA were optimistic about their future.
In the midst of these celebrations, the government reiterated its pledge to continue working tirelessly to meet the needs of its citizens, ensuring that Enugu East LGA remains a model for development in the state.
