The Academic Staff Union of Universities has elected a new president, Professor Chris Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital. Piwuna, who doubles as the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jos, took over from Professor Victor Osodeke, a soil science expert from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The election was held during the union’s 23rd National Delegates Congress in Benin City, Edo State, where Piwuna defeated his opponent, Professor Adamu Babayo from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.
His emergence comes amid widespread speculations of industrial action following issues surrounding the sharing formula of Earned Academic Allowances recently released by the Federal Government of Nigeria and brain drain, among others.
