Enugu State Athletes Well-Motivated for Gate-Way Games – Ekweremadu

The Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, has expressed confidence that the state’s athletes and officials are well-motivated to participate in the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, also known as the Gate-Way Games, in Ogun State.

According to Commissioner Ekweremadu, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s release of funds for the state’s participation in the festival has created an enabling environment for the athletes to excel. He praised the governor’s commitment to sports development and the welfare of athletes and officials.

Ekweremadu revealed that the state government has put in place attractive rewards for medalists, including employment for gold medalists and handsome rewards for silver and bronze medalists.

“I want to thank Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his commitment towards sports development in the state and for his interest in the welfare of athletes and officials,” Ekweremadu said. “I am confident that our athletes and officials, considering the enabling environment the government provided them, going to the games, they will win laurels and do the State proud.”

Enugu State will participate in 12 sporting events, including athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, handball, football (female), judo, tennis, para-athletics, powerlifting, wrestling, and swimming.

The festival is scheduled to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from May 16th to May 30th, 2025.
