The Awgu Local Government Area reverberated with joy and celebration on Friday, May 23, 2025, as Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, the executive chairman of the council, officially handed over a 300 KVA power distribution transformer to the Agbogugu Autonomous Community and Mgbowo Community.

An additional transformer was also designated for the local council headquarters and its surrounding areas, marking a significant milestone in the council’s efforts to enhance electricity supply and improve the living standards of residents.
The handover ceremony, held at the local council headquarters, drew a large crowd of residents and community leaders, all eager to witness this momentous occasion. Among the dignitaries present were traditional leaders from the beneficiary communities, including His Royal Highness Igwe John Azubuike Ibe of Ekpulabo Mgbowo and His Royal Highness Igwe Greg Ikwuagwu Ituma Onyima, alongside Hon. Elozie Nwabuisi, the president general of the Federation of Agbogugu Autonomous Community.
In his address, Hon. Okolo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the pressing needs of the community, as identified in a comprehensive survey conducted at the beginning of his tenure. Reliable electricity supply emerged as a top priority, and the chairman expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the residents in fulfilling his promises.
“The delivery of this transformer is not just about power; it symbolizes hope and progress for our communities,” Hon. Okolo stated. “I am deeply appreciative of your continued support, which has made it possible for us to realize this dream.”
The community leaders responded with heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the chairman’s dedication to improving the living standards of the residents. His Royal Highness Igwe John Azubuike Ibe described Hon. Okolo as a “Godsent,” highlighting the transformative projects he has initiated for the betterment of the people.
“This transformer will power our homes, businesses, and aspirations,” Hon. Elozie Nwabuisi said, reflecting the collective hope of the people. As the ceremony concluded, Hon. Okolo urged the community to ensure the security and proper use of the transformer, emphasizing its intended purpose for the benefit of all.
