She noted that Dr. Onoh has demonstrated unalloyed commitment to the protection of rights—particularly those of women and children.

She also commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and the First Lady for their consistent support for initiatives that promote the protection and empowerment of women and children.

Mrs. Enih stated that the public hearing was designed to provide women with a platform to speak on pressing issues affecting their rights, including female genital mutilation, domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence.

She further appreciated SSDO and the Ford Foundation for their strong partnership in advancing gender reform across the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Enugu North LGA, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, described the event as timely, given the ongoing campaigns and sensitisation efforts around gender-based violence. He added that Enugu North is doing its best to lead from the front.

Dr. Onoh expressed gratitude to Governor Mbah for approving the gender policy reform and for the various developmental projects in the council and throughout the state.

He also commended Mrs. Enih for her passion and commitment to gender equity and inclusiveness, while encouraging the women in attendance to express themselves freely so their contributions could shape a comprehensive policy that addresses the challenges faced by women and children.
