A Month of Progress and Purpose

Dear Ndi Awgu,

As we usher in the month of July with renewed hope, we take a moment to reflect on the remarkable progress made in June 2025 under the visionary leadership of our Executive Chairman, Hon. Uche Okolo. This month has been nothing short of transformational—filled with bold steps, strategic development, and unwavering commitment to community well-being.

From sanitation and education to agriculture, infrastructure, and security, Awgu Local Government is experiencing a wave of impactful change. Below are the key highlights from June 2025:

✅ A HISTORIC PUSH TO END OPEN DEFECATION BY 2025

In a bold move towards public health and environmental sustainability, the Council launched a landmark Sanitation Reform Initiative aimed at ending open defecation by the end of 2025.

2,000 Free SATO Pan Toilets: Installation commenced across rural and urban wards to ensure access to safe sanitation.

Capacity Building: Training sessions for local artisans in Smart Toilet Technology were launched to equip them with modern skills for sustainable sanitation solutions.

This initiative reaffirms our resolve to make Awgu one of the first LGAs in Enugu State to achieve open defecation-free status.

✅ ACCESS ROAD TO SMART GREEN SCHOOL NEARS COMPLETION

The construction of the access road to the Smart Green School is in advanced stages. This critical infrastructure project will:

Improve daily commute for students and teachers

Enhance the learning environment

Promote educational equity and inclusion

We believe that every child deserves a safe, modern, and easily accessible learning space, and this project is a testament to that commitment.

✅ AWGU SMART FARM: PIONEERING AGRICULTURAL INNOVATION

The Awgu Smart Farm project continued to gain momentum this June. Designed as a hub for sustainable farming, it is:

Introducing innovative agricultural practices

Training local farmers in climate-smart techniques

Boosting food production and local agribusiness

With this farm, Awgu is positioning itself as a model of modern, self-sustaining rural agriculture.

✅ PERIMETER FENCING & SECURITY POST FOR FARM ESTATES

In June, the Council began the construction of a perimeter fence and security post at the Awgu Farm Estates. The goal:

Ensure safety for farmers and their produce

Protect vital investments in agriculture

Provide 24/7 surveillance to deter criminal activity

This proactive measure reflects our broader strategy of integrating development with security.

✅ MOTORCYCLES DONATED TO FOREST GUARDS

As part of efforts to enhance local security and surveillance:

Motorcycles were donated to forest guards for improved mobility and rapid response to threats.

This intervention is aimed at safeguarding farmlands, forest zones, and rural communities.

The initiative strengthens grassroots security and supports the state’s security architecture.

✅ CHAIRMAN HON. UCHE OKOLO HONOURED WITH ESUT STATESMANSHIP AWARD

We proudly celebrate a significant recognition this month:

Hon. Uche Okolo was honoured with the Prestigious Statesmanship Award by Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

The award applauds his transformative leadership, grassroots impact, and dedication to people-first governance.

This recognition affirms that true leadership is measured not by promises but by the lives touched and progress delivered.

✅ TRANSFORMATION OF AWGU LGA COUNCIL SECRETARIAT

In line with the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, the Chairman is spearheading the beautification and modernization of the Awgu Local Government Headquarters. Key developments include:

Landscaping and structural upgrades

Creation of a modern, functional administrative environment

Enhanced public service delivery

This revitalization transforms the Secretariat into a beacon of excellence, reflecting the spirit of the new Awgu.

✅ CLOSING THOUGHTS

Every project completed, every brick laid, every initiative launched is a reflection of our shared vision for a greater Awgu. June has been a month of bold actions and purposeful leadership, and we remain committed to delivering even more in the coming months.
