The project, carried out in partnership with the Enugu State Water Corporation and the Enugu State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (EN-RUWASSA), targets key areas including Ogbete East (Ward 5), Ogbete West (Ward 6), New Haven (Ward 10), Independence Layout (Ward 11), and Pottery (Ward 12)—with a combined focus on restoring water access, repairing pipelines, and addressing sanitation gaps.

During a joint sensitization and inspection tour of the identified wards, Senior Special Assistant to the Chairman on WASH and Donor Relations, Mrs. Adaora Oji-Ngwu, reiterated the commitment of the Executive Chairman, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, to delivering on his promise of improved sanitation and hygiene inline with the vision of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. She emphasized that the Chairman had heard the concerns of residents and was working closely with state agencies to implement sustainable WASH solutions.

Speaking on behalf of EN-RUWASSA, Mrs. Serah Chioma Agbo praised the LGA for prioritizing WASH infrastructure and aligning with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s mandate to achieve Open Defecation Free status in Enugu State by December 31, 2025. She cautioned that open defecation and poor hygiene practices are direct contributors to disease outbreaks such as cholera, and highlighted the availability of affordable toilet innovations like Satopan and Sato stool, alongside free installation training for interested residents. She urged landlords to take responsibility for ensuring that all households have access to functional toilet facilities.

Also addressing the community, Mrs. Odo Faith, Head of WASH in Enugu North LGA, reminded residents that sanitation is not optional. She noted that non-compliance with minimum WASH standards especially the absence of toilets may attract sanctions as enforcement begins in select areas.

Mr. Ogbu Godwin, Assistant Head of Distribution at the Enugu State Water Corporation, assured communities that technical work on water supply extension will soon begin.

Ward stakeholders and residents jointly expressed gratitude and commended the efforts of the Enugu North LGA Chairman.
