Nkanu Youths Call for Focus on Governance, Caution Against Early 2027 Endorsements

The Nkanu Youths Organization (NYO) has urged political leaders and groups in Enugu State to exercise caution in endorsing Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that such moves are premature and could distract from ongoing governance efforts.

Addressing journalists in Enugu on Friday, the group’s President, Comrade Dika David, emphasized the importance of allowing the Governor to concentrate on fulfilling his campaign promises and advancing development in the state before discussions about succession or re-election begin.

“We want to make it clear that our position is not confrontational, but a collective responsibility to remind government that politics should serve the people and not the other way round,” Comrade David said.

The group acknowledged the Governor’s vision for a $30 billion GDP target but encouraged the administration to prioritize policies that support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), human capital development, and youth empowerment. According to them, these areas are vital for inclusive growth and sustainable progress.

“As Nkanu youths, we strongly maintain that endorsements at this stage are premature. What the people need right now is good governance, inclusive policies, and real delivery of democracy dividends,” David noted.

The NYO also highlighted that Nkanu land is blessed with leaders of capacity and integrity, including Governor Mbah himself, Chief Uche Nnaji, Capt. Everest Nnaji (Odengene), and Chief Samson Chukwu Nnamani, among others. They stressed that when the time comes, 2027 should be left open to all qualified aspirants from the zone to encourage healthy competition and strengthen democracy.

The group further appealed for more investment in youth-focused programmes such as capacity-building, skills training, and empowerment initiatives, while also encouraging young people across Enugu State to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise.

“As the next generation of leaders, we are determined to play a decisive role in shaping the Enugu of tomorrow, a responsibility we embrace with total commitment and seriousness. Anything done for us without us is completely against us. Youths are not only the leaders of tomorrow; we are also stakeholders of today,” Comrade David concluded.
