Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The intervention, released on August 28, 2025, translates to ₦250,000 for each beneficiary and comes at a time when students are battling with rising costs of legal education in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Law School recently increased its tuition from ₦396,000 to ₦476,000, alongside a compulsory ₦30,000 acceptance fee, bringing the total to ₦506,000—excluding other charges. With campus regulations forbidding cooking, students have been forced to rely entirely on purchased meals, a situation that plunged many into debt before the governor’s timely support.
Governor Mbah, who has repeatedly stressed that education remains the most reliable pathway out of poverty and a driver of human capital development, acted immediately upon being informed of the students’ plight. His gesture has not only provided relief but also positioned him as one of the most education-focused leaders in the country. Notably, he is only the second governor in the South-East to roll out such large-scale assistance for law students.
Beyond this intervention, Governor Mbah’s administration has continued to push development across Enugu State, with more than 5,000 projects completed or ongoing in areas such as roads, water supply, healthcare, and the digital economy. His government has been widely commended for prioritizing opportunities for young people.
In appreciation, the National Association of Enugu State Law Students formally thanked the governor, describing the bursary as a “historic and life-changing support” that underscores his unwavering commitment to the educational advancement of Enugu youths.
