With strategic planning, prudent management of resources, and a people-first approach, Hon. Okolo has proven that true leadership is measured not by rhetoric but by visible impact.
Infrastructure: Connecting Communities and Restoring Dignity
In just one year, Awgu has experienced remarkable infrastructural growth. The completion and furnishing of the Council’s Administrative/ICT Building restored both dignity and efficiency to the secretariat, while the comprehensive beautification of the headquarters has given it a modern, welcoming look.
Road projects have also taken center stage. Signature works include the 3.5km Awgu–Ugwueme Road, the 4km Agbogugu Smart School Road, and the asphalting of the Awgu–Ndeaboh Road (Awgu axis). Access roads to the new Smart Schools are under construction, while the Farm Estate security road and fencing project are steadily progressing.
To complement these efforts, the Chairman restored abandoned council construction equipment, enabling the grading of rural roads across communities. Even the NYSC Orientation Camp Road now enjoys regular grading, easing mobility for corps members and visitors alike.
Water, Sanitation, and Public Health: Clean Water, Cleaner Environment
Under the Water-for-All Initiative, more than 13 solar-powered boreholes have been completed, ensuring residents have steady access to clean drinking water. To tackle open defecation, over 2,000 satopan toilets have been distributed to indigent families, while regular sanitation drives underscore the administration’s commitment to public health and environmental hygiene.
Power, Lighting, and ICT: Brightening Lives and Enhancing Security
Solar-powered streetlights now illuminate every community in Awgu, improving night-time visibility and boosting security. At the council headquarters, CCTV cameras have been installed to enhance surveillance, while the Chairman’s office has been upgraded with state-of-the-art ICT facilities—signaling a government that embraces innovation and technology.
Agriculture and Food Security: Empowering Farmers, Boosting Productivity
Determined to position Awgu as an agricultural hub, Hon. Okolo established the Awgu Smart Farms, which are already driving food production and agribusiness. Farmers across the LGA have received seedlings and farm inputs, while the newly launched Awgu Agro Rangers provide security for farmlands, protecting farmers and their investments.
Education and Youth Empowerment: Building a Stronger Future
In a landmark educational intervention, 1,500 students were sponsored for JAMB examinations, giving children from low-income families a chance to pursue higher education. Youths have also benefited from entrepreneurship and vocational training programmes, equipping them with practical skills for economic independence.
Sports development received a boost with the successful hosting of the Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Unity Sports Tournament for Awgu youths. Additionally, the NYSC Orientation Camp continues to receive government support through fencing, clearing, and logistics assistance to enhance the corps members’ welfare.
Social Welfare and Community Support: Leaving No One Behind
Hon. Okolo’s administration has consistently extended a helping hand to Ndi Awgu. From Christmas welfare packages to fueling support for Okada riders, the Chairman has ensured that residents feel the government’s presence. Persons living with disabilities have received special equipment, while women were empowered with palliatives during the August Meetings.
The council also sponsors the monthly meetings of traditional rulers and president generals, strengthening grassroots leadership. Furthermore, more than 250 Awgu indigenes have secured employment through various appointments, opening opportunities for local talents.
Security and Peacebuilding: Ensuring Stability and Harmony
Security remains a top priority for the administration. The council provides regular logistics support to the Police, DSS, Army, and Neighborhood Watch to keep law enforcement active and responsive.
Through continuous dialogue and community engagement, Hon. Okolo has fostered peaceful coexistence among farmers, herders, and neighboring communities. The creation of the Awgu Agro Rangers further reflects his proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property.
Awards and Recognition: Excellence Acknowledged
Hon. Uche Okolo’s visionary leadership has earned him prestigious accolades. In 2025, he was named one of the Distinguished Winners of the 23rd Rootswatch Local Government Chairman Merit Award, a recognition reserved for leaders of exceptional impact.
He also received the Statesmanship Award from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), a testament to his dedication to grassroots development and transformative governance.
Partnership with Gov. Mbah’s Transformational Agenda
