The management of the Enugu East Senatorial District Bus Terminals has commenced full enforcement of a directive requiring all commuter vehicles to load and offload passengers strictly within designated terminals across the district.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The directive covers key transport hubs, including Holy Ghost Bus Terminal 1 and 2, Garriki Bus Terminal along Agbani Road, and the Amurri Road Bus Terminal on Nike Road. It applies to all categories of commuter vehicles operating along these routes, including minibuses and tricycles, commonly known as keke.
Under the enforcement regime, vehicle operators are prohibited from picking up or dropping off passengers on adjoining roads, access points, or any areas surrounding the terminals. The management warned that any operator found violating the directive will be sanctioned in accordance with existing Enugu State traffic laws and regulations.
According to the terminal management, the initiative is aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving commuter safety, and restoring order around major transport corridors within the state capital. The move also aligns with the broader transport and urban renewal reforms currently being implemented by the Enugu State Government.
Industry observers have attributed recent improvements in the transport sector to the strategic leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose administration has prioritised infrastructure development, effective traffic management, and the modernisation of public transport systems as part of efforts to reposition Enugu as a well-organised and investor-friendly state.
The management further appealed to transport unions, drivers, and commuters to cooperate fully with enforcement officers to ensure smooth and effective implementation of the directive in the interest of public safety and urban order.
