… Reaffirms Commitment To Quality Infrastructure Delivery
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has issued a detailed clarification following a report by Sahara Reporters concerning a recent windstorm that affected the roofing of one of the ongoing Smart Green School projects in the State.
In an official statement, the Ministry said its attention was drawn to the publication and that it became necessary to present the facts, correct misleading impressions, and reassure the public of the State Government’s unwavering commitment to quality and accountability in project execution.
According to the Ministry, windstorms are natural occurrences that can cause damage to exposed components of buildings, particularly roofing elements. It emphasised that such incidents are not unusual during periods of extreme weather conditions and do not automatically indicate structural failure or substandard construction.
The Ministry further clarified that the windstorm did not affect only the Smart Green School project. Several private residential buildings, market shops, trees, and other structures within the same vicinity were also impacted by the same weather event. It stressed that this context is important to prevent the public from drawing inaccurate or incomplete conclusions.
“This clarification is not intended as a justification,” the statement noted, “but to provide factual context and prevent the public from being misled.”
Expressing concern over the tone of the report, the Ministry criticised what it described as an attempt to use an isolated, weather-related incident to cast broad doubts on the quality of other ongoing projects across the State. It maintained that such generalisation is misleading and does not reflect the facts on ground.
The Ministry reiterated that the Smart Green Schools are being executed under strict engineering supervision and structured quality control procedures. It noted that the projects are formally designed, professionally managed, and subject to oversight at multiple levels to ensure compliance with approved standards.
Highlighting the scale of development currently underway, the Ministry disclosed that the Enugu State Government is implementing over 260 projects simultaneously across various locations. It explained that in large-scale infrastructure delivery, an isolated incident in one location does not diminish the integrity of the broader programme nor invalidate the significant progress being achieved across the State.
The statement further revealed that immediately the incident was reported, the supervising team mobilised to the site, conducted an assessment of the damage, and commenced corrective works without delay.
Reaffirming the government’s position, the Ministry pledged sustained commitment to quality, accountability, and timely project delivery. It assured residents that the administration would not allow sensational reporting to distort public perception or undermine confidence in transformative infrastructure projects.
Describing the Smart Green Schools initiative as one of the most ambitious educational infrastructure programmes in Nigeria today, the Ministry stated that the project is designed to modernise learning environments, improve educational outcomes, and provide world-class facilities for children across Enugu State.
The public was therefore urged to disregard misleading narratives and rely on verified information from appropriate authorities.
“Enugu is building, and Enugu will continue to build,” the statement concluded.
