
President Bola Tinubu has removed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and appointed Tunji Disu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), as his replacement.

Egbetokun became the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023, with his appointment confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023. He had reached the age of 58 at the time of his appointment and was originally due to retire on September 4, 2024, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60. His tenure was controversially extended by the President prior to this removal.
Details about Disu’s plans as the new IGP are expected to be announced in the coming days.
