In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, the council boss described the recognition as a clear testament to Governor Mbah’s visionary leadership, innovative policies, and measurable impact on governance in Enugu State.

Governor Mbah was nominated in the categories of Education Reformer Governor of the Year, Financial Architect Governor of the Year, Infrastructure Champion Governor of the Year, and the prestigious Outstanding Governor of the Year—emerging as the only governor shortlisted across four categories in this landmark edition of the awards.

Reacting to the development, Okolo characterised the nominations as “well-earned honours,” noting that they reflect a leadership style anchored on transformation, accountability, and sustainable development.

“This national recognition goes beyond personal achievement; it affirms the significant progress Enugu State has recorded under Governor Mbah’s administration,” he stated. “From remarkable growth in Internally Generated Revenue to expansive infrastructure development and far-reaching education reforms, the governor has set a new standard for governance in Nigeria.”

According to the awards organisers, in a letter jointly signed by the Chairman of the Awards Committee, Yemi Adebisi, and the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Independent Newspapers, Steve Omanufeme, the nominations were based on the governor’s strides in fiscal discipline, transparency, and innovative policy implementation.

Among the standout achievements cited is a 125 per cent increase in Internally Generated Revenue, alongside an ambitious infrastructure programme covering over 1,000 kilometres of roads. Equally noteworthy is the rollout of 260 Smart Green Schools, designed to integrate technology-driven learning and modern educational standards.

Chairman Okolo further commended the administration’s prioritisation of education, highlighting the allocation of over 30 per cent of the state’s budget to the sector as a strategic investment in human capital development and long-term economic growth.

He added that the positive impact of these policies is already evident at the grassroots level, stressing that communities across the state are experiencing tangible improvements in infrastructure, education, and economic opportunities.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to hold this Saturday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, where Governor Mbah is expected to be honoured alongside other distinguished Nigerians.

Okolo concluded by expressing confidence that the governor’s reform-driven leadership will continue to attract both national and international recognition, while urging the people of Enugu State to sustain their support for the administration’s transformative agenda.
