Leaders, stakeholders, and residents of Enugu North Senatorial District (Nsukka Zone) have formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for a second term in office, citing what they described as “visible, measurable, and impactful” achievements across the zone.

The endorsement was announced at a well-attended mega rally held at Nsukka Township Stadium, where the people of the zone comprising Nsukka, Igboeze North, Igboeze South, Udenu, Uzo Uwani, and Igbo Etiti Local Government Areas also presented a cheque of ₦102 million to support Governor Mbah’s nomination form for re-election.
Stakeholders highlighted a series of federal and state interventions that have significantly improved infrastructure and governance outcomes. They particularly commended the Tinubu administration for ongoing federal projects, including the rehabilitation of major road networks and the strategic inclusion of the South East in national development initiatives. Among notable milestones cited was the historic appointment of Prof. Simon Ortunaya as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a development described as breaking a 65-year precedent and restoring a sense of inclusion to the host community.
In a major boost to regional connectivity, Governor Mbah flagged off multiple road projects totaling nearly 70 kilometers. Chief among them is the 52.2km Nguru–Lejja–Aku–Akpakume Nze–Egede–Affa–Eke corridor, which he described as a critical economic enabler that will link communities to opportunities and stimulate commerce. He reiterated his administration’s broader economic vision of transforming Enugu State into a $30 billion economy within eight years, positioning Nsukka Zone as a central driver of that growth.
Addressing concerns surrounding the remodeling of Ogige Market, Mbah assured traders of government support, including the provision of seed capital to help affected business owners restart operations. He explained that the redevelopment was driven by safety considerations and the need to prevent potential disasters, emphasizing that governance must prioritise both development and human welfare.
The endorsement process, presided over by Senator Chukwuka Utazi and supported by federal lawmakers including Hon. Dennis Agbo and Hon. Mark Obetta, reflected a broad consensus among political leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, and women organisations. Top government officials present included Deputy Governor Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai and former Governor Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, alongside the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Samuel Asadu.
Governor Mbah also dismissed criticisms from political opponents advocating a one-term agenda, describing such positions as “illogical and counter-intuitive.” He stressed that leadership should be assessed based on results, adding that continuity becomes necessary when outcomes are evident and impactful.
Looking ahead, Mbah revealed plans for a 135.5km intra-state rail project designed to integrate economic activities across Enugu, including Ugwuoba, 9th Mile, Enugu metropolis, Nsukka, and Obollo Afor. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth, noting that development would not come at the expense of the people.
The Nsukka rally marks a significant moment in Enugu’s political landscape, underscoring growing support for continuity in governance at both federal and state levels. With strong financial backing, visible infrastructure strides, and a clear economic roadmap, the endorsement signals a strategic consolidation of political and developmental interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
