The Member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Anayo Berford Onwuegbu, FNSE, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the 2027 House of Representatives election after recording a sweeping victory in the party’s primary election held on Saturday, May 16, 2027.

Declaring the result, the Returning Officer for the exercise, Hon. Boniface Uchendu, announced that the APC primary election was peacefully conducted across the federal constituency, with party delegates overwhelmingly endorsing Hon. Onwuegbu for another term in the House of Representatives.
According to the official results, Hon. Aniorji scored 36 votes, Hon. Uzoigwe Darlington polled 28 votes, while Hon. Simon Oshi also secured 28 votes.
The outcome of the primary has been described by party stakeholders and supporters across Greater Awgu as a strong vote of confidence in Hon. Onwuegbu’s leadership, grassroots connection, and commitment to effective representation and constituency development.
Party faithful and supporters who gathered at the venue of the exercise expressed optimism that the APC would record a resounding victory in the constituency during the 2027 general election.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Hon. Onwuegbu expressed gratitude to party members, stakeholders, and supporters for the trust reposed in him.
He also commended the Executive Chairmen of Aninri, Awgu, and Oji-River Local Government Areas, party executives, and members of the electoral committee for ensuring a transparent and successful primary election process.
“You have spoken loudly and clearly through your votes by giving me the mandate to once again represent you in the House of Representatives,” he stated.
“I assure you that, working together with our hardworking Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, we will continue to deliver more dividends of democracy to our people. I sincerely appreciate your support and urge everyone to remain steadfast in supporting the APC-led government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The event ended on a celebratory note as supporters and party members erupted in chants and solidarity songs, reaffirming their commitment to the APC candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
