According to him, the system enables the company to source agricultural produce directly from farm gates, thereby reducing the influence of middlemen and unnecessary market costs that often drive up food prices.
Speaking on the development, he stated, “The Enugu State Marketing Company has worked with farmers in Enugu State to create a food aggregation system to get foodstuffs from farm gates, cheaper for our workers.”
He noted that the programme is designed not only to provide relief for workers facing increasing economic pressures, but also to support local farmers by guaranteeing them improved access to markets and better opportunities to sell their produce.
The Managing Director further emphasized that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Enugu State Government to promote food security, encourage local agricultural production, and build a sustainable economic framework capable of improving the living conditions of citizens.
Stakeholders have described the initiative as a strategic intervention that could help stabilize food supply within the state, reduce post-harvest losses, and create a more organized agricultural distribution network. Observers also believe that direct engagement with farmers will enhance productivity while ensuring that consumers benefit from fairer and more affordable market prices.
The food aggregation system is expected to further boost confidence among farmers, strengthen rural economic activities, and contribute significantly to the state government’s ongoing drive toward economic growth and agricultural transformation.
