The political landscape in Nkanu East Local Government Area received a significant boost on Wednesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially presented a Certificate of Return to Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, confirming him as the party’s chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming September 26, 2026 local government election in Enugu State.

The presentation took place at the APC State Secretariat in Enugu following the successful conduct of the party’s direct primaries across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe emerged as the APC flag bearer for Nkanu East after the completion of the tenure of the outgoing council chairman, Hon. Sydney Edeh, who did not seek re-election after serving two terms in office.

Presenting the Certificate of Return, the Enugu State APC Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, described the primaries as peaceful, transparent, and successful, commending party faithful across the state for their orderly conduct throughout the exercise.

He expressed confidence that the APC would record overwhelming victories in the forthcoming council polls, urging candidates to sustain good governance and replicate the developmental strides of Governor Peter Mbah at the grassroots level.

According to him, “What you need to do is to go and replicate what our governor is doing in the state. His Excellency, Peter Mbah, has actually done most of the campaign for us.”

Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe’s emergence has continued to attract widespread commendation from party stakeholders and supporters within Nkanu East, many of whom described him as a grassroots-oriented leader with the capacity, experience, and vision to deepen development and strengthen governance at the local level.

Party faithful expressed optimism that his candidacy would further consolidate the APC’s growing influence in Nkanu East ahead of the September elections.

The APC leadership also charged all candidates to remain united, focused, and committed to delivering quality leadership that aligns with the developmental vision of the state government.
