The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has announced that the monthly environmental sanitation exercise for May 2026 will hold on Saturday, May 30, 2026, across the state.
According to a public service announcement issued by the Managing Director of ESWAMA, Mr. Richard Onaga, the exercise will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., during which there will be strict restriction of movement for residents and vehicles, except for persons on essential duties.
The Authority stated that individuals exempted from the restriction must present valid means of identification or an official ESWAMA pass to security and enforcement personnel.
ESWAMA further disclosed that the Environmental Court will be fully operational during the sanitation exercise to ensure strict compliance, warning that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
As part of measures to guarantee effective participation, the Authority directed that all early morning sporting activities, loading and off-loading of passengers in motor parks, and other forms of commercial activities across the state must be suspended within the sanitation period.
The agency urged residents to actively participate in cleaning their surroundings in order to sustain a cleaner and healthier environment throughout the state.
Meanwhile, ESWAMA reminded members of the public that the payment of 2026 sanitation rates for both commercial operators and private residents is still ongoing. Residents were advised to make payments through any commercial bank or directly at the ESWAMA office located at No. 7 Ridgeway Road, GRA, Enugu.
For further enquiries, the Authority encouraged the public to contact ESWAMA via call or WhatsApp on 08135534440.
“ESWAMA: A Cleaner Tomorrow, Today,” the statement concluded.
