The commendation was part of a resolution reached during the association’s plenary session held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Enugu Sports Club, Club Road, Enugu. The gathering, which comprises former Speakers and principal officers of the Enugu State House of Assembly, expressed satisfaction with the pace and scope of development witnessed across the state under Governor Mbah’s leadership.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of AELESHA, Rt. Hon. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, PhD (Ozowaluona), the former lawmakers highlighted several landmark projects that have redefined the state’s developmental landscape. These include the establishment of Enugu Air, the construction of modern bus terminals, extensive urban and gateway road networks, the ongoing development of the New Enugu Smart City, the revitalisation of the long-abandoned Presidential Hotel, and the reconstruction of the International Conference Centre.

The association also applauded the administration’s investment in human capital development, particularly the construction of 260 ward-based Smart Schools and Type II Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as the allocation of over 33 per cent of the state’s budget to education.

AELESHA further described the commissioning of the Haier Industrial Park, a $20 million assembly plant for the production of laptops, smartphones, and spare parts, as a strategic step towards industrialisation and job creation.

The body equally praised the Governor’s 042 Ride Taxi Youth Empowerment Scheme, noting that the initiative would not only create sustainable employment opportunities for young people but also improve public transportation services across Enugu State.

On sports development, the former lawmakers commended Governor Mbah for sustaining the legacy and successes of Rangers International Football Club, describing the club as a powerful symbol of Igbo resilience, courage, and identity.

According to the association, Rangers transcends football, embodying the indomitable spirit and historic struggles of the Igbo people, particularly during the Nigerian Civil War, where the famed Rangers unit of the Biafran Armed Forces became synonymous with bravery and determination.

“Rangers represents the Igbo consciousness of never giving up, a spirit of resilience, ingenuity, and courage. We are delighted that Governor Peter Mbah continues to keep this flag flying,” the statement read.

AELESHA reaffirmed its support for the Governor’s developmental agenda and expressed optimism that the administration would continue to deliver projects and policies that advance the prosperity and progress of Enugu State.
