Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu Pays Last Respect as Chief Collins Okelu is Laid to Rest in Mgbowo

Anayo Onwuegbu, FNSE, has paid glowing tribute to the late Chief Sir Collins C. Okelu, describing him as a distinguished community leader, bridge-builder, and selfless servant whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.

Chief Okelu, who served as the Coordinating President-General of Awgu Local Government Area and President-General of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community, was laid to rest on Friday, June 26, 2026, at his hometown of Amaeta, Mgbowo, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, following a well-attended funeral ceremony.

In a heartfelt tribute, Hon. Onwuegbu expressed profound sadness over the passing of the respected community leader, whom he described as a dear brother, friend and patriot dedicated to the service of his people.

“It is with profound sadness, yet with gratitude to Almighty God for a life well lived, that I pay tribute to my dear brother, friend and distinguished community leader, Late Chief Collins Okelu. His passing is a great loss not only to his family but also to the people of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community, Awgu Local Government Area, and all who were privileged to benefit from his wisdom, leadership and friendship,” he said.

The federal lawmaker noted that Chief Okelu’s tenure as Coordinating President-General of Awgu LGA and President-General of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community was marked by visionary leadership, humility, integrity and an unwavering commitment to peace, unity and community development.

According to him, although the late community leader has departed, the values he upheld, the lives he impacted and the positive contributions he made to society will remain indelible in the hearts of the people.

Hon. Onwuegbu also extended his condolences to the Traditional Council, the people of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community, the entire Awgu Local Government Area and the bereaved family, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

Represented at the funeral by his aides, Hon. Onwuegbu joined family members, friends, associates and sympathizers in celebrating the remarkable life and enduring legacy of the late Chief Okelu.

Members of the lawmaker’s delegation included the Contact Person for Mgbowo Ward, Hon. Bonaventure Onunta; his Media Aide, Hon. Okpara A. Obinna; and the Contact Person for Awgu Ward II, Hon. Ochenche who made a presentation to the Umunna.

The funeral ceremony drew a large gathering of traditional rulers, clergymen, political leaders, community stakeholders and mourners from across Enugu State, who came to pay their final respects to the late elder statesman.

As final prayers were offered, tributes poured in for Chief Sir Collins C. Okelu, with many describing him as a man of peace, compassion and exemplary leadership whose contributions to community development will never be forgotten.

Chief Sir Collins C. Okelu is survived by his family and a grateful community that will continue to cherish his legacy of service, unity and selfless leadership.
