
Distinguished Senator Osita Ngwu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has joined family members, traditional institutions and the people of Awgu Local Government Area in mourning the passing of renowned community leader, Chief Sir Collins C. Okelu, whose funeral was held in his hometown of Amaeta, Mgbowo, on Friday.

The late Chief Okelu, a former Coordinating President-General of Awgu Local Government Area and President-General of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community, was honoured by dignitaries from across Enugu State for a lifetime devoted to community development, peaceful coexistence and selfless leadership.
Paying tribute to the deceased, Senator Ngwu described him as a man whose life was defined by integrity, courage and an uncommon commitment to the welfare of his people. He noted that Chief Okelu earned widespread respect through years of dedicated service and left behind a legacy that would continue to inspire present and future generations.
According to the Senator, the late community leader distinguished himself by promoting unity among communities, championing development initiatives and serving as a dependable voice for peace and progress within Awgu Local Government Area.
Chief Collins Okelu devoted his life to building stronger communities and bringing people together. His wisdom, humility and unwavering commitment to public service made him a respected leader whose impact will endure for many years. His passing is a great loss to Enugu West, but his legacy will remain a source of inspiration to all who believe in service to humanity, Senator Ngwu said.

The lawmaker further observed that while death has taken away a respected elder statesman, the values he embodied, honesty, compassion, patriotism and sacrifice, will continue to shape the lives of those who worked with him and benefited from his leadership.
Senator Ngwu extended his heartfelt condolences to the Okelu family, the Traditional Council of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community, the people of Mgbowo, Awgu Local Government Area and the entire Enugu West Senatorial District. He prayed for God’s comfort upon the bereaved family and for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
Representing Senator Ngwu at the funeral ceremony were Hon. Emeka Ude, Hon. Chidi Ejinaka, Hon. Onyedika, Hon. Jonas Nwaude, Hon. Emma Chukwu and other aides, who attended on his behalf. The delegation joined traditional rulers, government officials, religious leaders, political associates, friends and sympathisers who gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects to one of Awgu’s most respected sons.
The solemn ceremony was marked by prayers, heartfelt tributes and reflections on the exemplary life of Chief Sir Collins C. Okelu, whose unwavering dedication to community service and grassroots leadership earned him a lasting place in the history of Mgbowo and Enugu State.

Though he has departed, Chief Sir Collins C. Okelu leaves behind a remarkable legacy of honour, unity and selfless service that will continue to inspire his family, community and generations yet unborn.
