
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Enugu State chapter, has commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for what it described as a bold investment in primary healthcare, saying the ongoing construction of 260 Type-2 Primary Health Centres across the state’s political wards would significantly improve access to quality healthcare services.

Speaking during the visit, the NMA State Chairman, Dr. Sunday Okafor, said the project ranks among the most ambitious primary healthcare infrastructure initiatives in Nigeria, noting that it would strengthen healthcare delivery, reduce maternal and child mortality, enhance disease prevention, and accelerate the attainment of Universal Health Coverage in Enugu State.
The association praised the governor’s commitment to repositioning the health sector through sustained investments in healthcare infrastructure, workforce development, digital health innovation, emergency medical services, and the revitalisation of secondary, tertiary and quaternary health institutions.
It also commended the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ENSPHCDA), led by its Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ifenyinwa Ani-Osheku, for providing the leadership and coordination that have driven the successful implementation of the initiative.
Reaffirming its readiness to partner with the state government, the association said it would continue to support efforts aimed at ensuring the facilities deliver accessible, affordable, efficient and patient-centred healthcare services to residents across the state.
