…Strengthens Grassroots Mobilisation Ahead of 2026 Council Poll, 2027 Elections

The Mmiri Oma Campaign Council has intensified its grassroots mobilisation in Nkanu East Local Government Area, engaging the 14 APC Ward Chairmen in a strategic meeting ahead of the September 26, 2026 Local Government Council election and the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, August 25, focused on strengthening the campaign’s ward-by-ward structure, deepening community engagement and ensuring that the APC’s programmes, message and achievements reach residents across the villages and communities of Nkanu East.

Addressing the Ward Chairmen, the Director-General of the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council, Hon. Prince Nwatu, thanked them for honouring the invitation and described them as the drivers of the party at the grassroots.

Nwatu stressed that the Ward Chairmen occupy a strategic position in the campaign structure because of their direct connection with the people. He urged them to intensify engagement within their respective wards and ensure that the party’s message reaches every community.

He also highlighted the rural road projects of the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, noting that improved road connectivity is bringing government closer to rural communities and creating better conditions for economic activity.

According to Nwatu, the rehabilitation and opening of rural roads are making it easier for farmers to move their produce from farms to markets, while also improving movement between communities.

He specifically cited the improved connectivity between Ihuokpara and Ugbawka, noting that the development is changing travel patterns, strengthening community links and improving access across Nkanu East.

Nwatu maintained that the administration’s development approach is taking governance closer to the grassroots, allowing communities to increasingly feel the presence and impact of government.

Speaking on behalf of the Ward Chairmen, their leader, Comr. Okeke A. Victor, expressed appreciation to the APC Chairmanship Candidate, the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council and its Director-General for the engagement.

He particularly welcomed the appointment of Prince Nwatu as Director-General, expressing confidence in his leadership and ability to coordinate the campaign effectively towards victory.

The LGA APC Chairman called for a 100 per cent victory from top to bottom, charging the Ward Chairmen to take ownership of grassroots mobilisation and ensure that the party’s programmes, message and achievements are communicated directly to villages and communities within their respective wards.

Also speaking, the APC Chairmanship Candidate, Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, commended the Ward Chairmen for their commitment and described them as the “lions of their respective wards.”

Ogbuekwe urged them to activate and mobilise youths across the 14 wards, stressing that young people are a critical component of effective grassroots mobilisation, community engagement and electoral participation.

He further assured the Ward Chairmen that he understands the major challenges confronting communities across Nkanu East, particularly in the areas of road infrastructure, electricity connectivity, security and other essential community needs.

He pledged that these concerns would receive attention under his leadership, emphasising the importance of responsive leadership that remains connected to the needs of communities.

The strategic engagement marked another step in the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council’s effort to build a coordinated and formidable grassroots structure ahead of the September 26 council election, while laying the foundation for sustained political mobilisation towards the 2027 general elections.

With the 14 wards now fully engaged, the campaign council is taking its mobilisation drive closer to the people and strengthening the ward structures expected to drive its campaign across Nkanu East.

The meeting reinforced a simple but significant political reality: elections are ultimately won at the grassroots.

And in Nkanu East, the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council says its grassroots machinery is already in motion.
