The bond between Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu and the youths of Awgu received a significant boost on Thursday, as the federal lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to investing in the people, empowering young Nigerians and supporting community-driven development.

The gathering brought together youths from across Awgu, community leaders, stakeholders and other dignitaries, with discussions and activities centred on unity, youth development and the collective advancement of Awgu.
Although Hon. Engr. Onwuegbu was unable to attend personally, he was represented by a delegation comprising Hon. Friday Okoli, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Chukwu, Hon. Michael Okibe and Hon. Onyekachi Nwafor.
Speaking on behalf of the lawmaker, Hon. Friday Okoli conveyed Onwuegbu’s appreciation to the leadership and members of the association for the invitation and for their continued commitment to the development of Awgu.
Okoli said Onwuegbu attaches great importance to the youths, describing them as a powerful force whose energy, creativity and determination must be channelled towards building stronger communities.
He commended the association for its unity and for embarking on projects designed to contribute to the development of Awgu, noting that such initiatives demonstrate that young people can move beyond demands for government intervention to becoming active partners in community development.
Highlighting some of the lawmaker’s interventions, Okoli pointed to a broad range of initiatives in education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and agriculture.
These include scholarships and educational support for beneficiaries pursuing NCE, NTI, PGDE and MSc programmes, as well as the construction of a six-classroom block at Boys Secondary School, Awgu.
He also highlighted empowerment programmes through the provision of tailoring machines and tools, hairdressing equipment, drilling machines, motorcycles and other livelihood-support items, alongside agricultural empowerment initiatives in which youths are among the major beneficiaries.
According to him, the objective is to ensure that young people are not left on the margins of economic opportunity but are equipped with the knowledge, skills and tools required to build sustainable livelihoods.
Okoli assured the youths that Onwuegbu would continue to support initiatives that promote education, economic empowerment and community development.
He equally encouraged members of the association to preserve their unity, describing it as one of the greatest assets available to the community.
The engagement took another practical turn as Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu made a generous financial contribution towards the ongoing projects of the association.
The gesture was received with appreciation by the youth leadership and members of the association.
It was seen as another indication of the lawmaker’s willingness to support not only individual empowerment but also collective, community-driven initiatives.
Responding, the President-General of Awgu Town Youths Association Worldwide, Engr. Joseph Ndubuisi, expressed appreciation to Onwuegbu for identifying with the association and supporting its activities.
Ndubuisi commended the lawmaker’s developmental interventions in Awgu, particularly his efforts in education, youth empowerment and grassroots development.
He also pledged the continued support of the association for Onwuegbu, while expressing confidence in the value of sustained collaboration between the youths and public leadership.
The Awgu gathering ultimately became more than a routine annual convention. It provided a platform for the youths to reaffirm their unity, celebrate their collective identity and engage with issues surrounding the future of their community.
