…As APC stakeholders rally communities for September 26 victory, reaffirm 100% support for Mbah, other APC candidates ahead of 2027
The political temperature in Nkanu East Local Government Area rose several notches on Monday, September 7, 2026, as the campaign train of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate, Hon. Chief Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, popularly known as Mmiri Oma, stormed Mburumbu and Nomeh Wards amid enthusiastic receptions, endorsements and renewed declarations of support for Governor Peter Mbah and the APC.
The campaign, which formed part of the party’s mobilisation ahead of the September 26, 2026 Local Government elections, brought together party leaders, political appointees, elected officials, community stakeholders, support groups and residents who turned out in large numbers to receive the campaign train.
But beneath the music, cultural displays and political excitement was a broader message: that the September council election is being viewed by APC stakeholders in Nkanu East as both a contest for local leadership and a crucial foundation for the party’s political strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
From Mburumbu to Nomeh, speakers repeatedly praised the development strides of Governor Mbah while urging residents to translate their appreciation into electoral support for Ogbuekwe and other APC candidates.
The campaign train first arrived at Mburumbu Ward, where party faithful, stakeholders, support groups and residents gathered to welcome the delegation.
Receiving the campaign train, the APC Ward Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Eze, acknowledged the party leaders and dignitaries present and described the campaign as the beginning of another victory for the APC in Nkanu East.
Eze urged stakeholders to work together to secure a decisive victory for the APC in the chairmanship and councillorship elections, assuring the campaign council of the ward’s commitment to the party.
He equally called for sustained mobilisation beyond the September election, stressing the need to consolidate the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
One of the major stakeholders at the Mburumbu rally, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Engr. Prince Lawrence Eze, welcomed the campaign train on behalf of other community stakeholders.
He described the forthcoming council election as a political test that would demonstrate the preparedness of Mburumbu and Nkanu East for the larger electoral contest ahead.
According to him, the people of Mburumbu are prepared to demonstrate their support for Governor Mbah and the APC through the ballot box.
His declaration was accompanied by a mobilisation gesture that drew loud cheers from the crowd and further energised the gathering.
The APC Chairman in Nkanu East, Hon. Abel Nwigwe (Agege), formally presented the party flag to the councillorship candidate for Mburumbu Ward, Hon. Uchechukwu Nweke, signalling the party’s readiness for the September contest.
The Director-General of the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council, Prince Chukwuemeka Nwatu, in his remarks, said the campaign was designed to mobilise support for the APC at the local government and 2027 general-election levels.
Nwatu urged the people to support the party, pointing to what he described as visible dividends of governance across Enugu State under the Mbah administration.
The ALGON Chairman, Enugu State, and Executive Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, was emphatic in his assessment of the political direction of the council area.
Edeh praised Governor Mbah’s administration, describing him as a governor whose policies and development initiatives had positioned Enugu State for greater investment and economic growth.
He declared that Nkanu East remained “totally and 100 per cent APC”, while urging the electorate to support the party’s candidates at the forthcoming council election.
Turning to the chairmanship contest, Edeh endorsed Ogbuekwe and expressed confidence in his capacity to lead the council.
He argued that Ogbuekwe had already demonstrated competence and capacity in the responsibilities he had handled under the Mbah administration and would, if elected, continue along the path of development established by the governor.
Addressing the people, Ogbuekwe expressed gratitude for what he described as the steadfast support and unconditional love shown to the APC and Governor Mbah.
He pledged that, if elected chairman of Nkanu East, he would draw from Governor Mbah’s developmental blueprint and deploy his professional experience toward transforming the local government into what he described as a modern, productive and prosperous council area.
Ogbuekwe also urged the people not to limit their support to the September 26 election.
He called on them to support the APC candidates contesting the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of maintaining a united political structure from the local government level to the state and national levels.
Other speakers at Mburumbu, including Dr. Innocent Ukpabi, Councilor Arch. Chijioke Nwachukwu and Hon. Obinna Okonkwo, highlighted development projects in the ward which they attributed to the Mbah administration, including smart schools, road infrastructure and Type-C hospitals.
From Mburumbu, the Mmiri Oma campaign train proceeded to Nomeh Ward, where residents and party supporters again turned out in large numbers.
The reception was marked by chants, cultural performances and declarations of support for the APC as community members welcomed the campaign delegation.
Welcoming the delegation, the Secretary to Nkanu East Local Government, Rev. Felix Okoye, expressed confidence in the party’s prospects and assured the campaign council of a landslide victory.
He said the people of Nomeh had witnessed what he described as tangible evidence of the Mbah administration’s commitment to development and were prepared to demonstrate their appreciation at the polls.
The APC Nomeh Ward Chairman also welcomed the delegation and maintained that Governor Mbah’s development initiatives had strengthened the party’s position in the community.
Another key stakeholder, Mazi Uche Anichukwu, SSA to the Governor on Media and External Relations, welcomed the campaign council and highlighted the administration’s development footprint in Nomeh.
He particularly drew attention to the planned agricultural project around the Nomeh-Unateze axis, describing it as part of the broader development vision of Governor Mbah and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Anichukwu said the people of Nomeh were appreciative of the government’s interventions and assured the APC campaign of the community’s support.
The APC Chairman in Nkanu East, Hon. Abel Nwigwe, subsequently presented the party flag to the councillorship candidate for Nomeh Ward, Hon. Kenneth Nwankwo.
Addressing the Nomeh gathering, ALGON Chairman and Nkanu East Council Chairman Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh again highlighted what he described as the dividends of the APC and Governor Mbah’s administration.
He called for a decisive victory for the APC in the September 26 council election and urged the people to sustain their support for Governor Mbah and other APC candidates in 2027.
Edeh formally introduced Ogbuekwe to the people of Nomeh and reiterated his endorsement of the chairmanship candidate.
He expressed confidence that Ogbuekwe would follow the developmental path established by Governor Mbah if elected.
In his remarks, Ogbuekwe thanked the people of Nomeh for their support and pledged to reproduce the development-oriented approach of Governor Mbah at the local government level.
He urged the people to extend their support to other APC candidates in the 2027 elections, specifically mentioning Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji and Hon. Okey Mbah.
Other speakers at the Nomeh gathering, including Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Okafor, Hon. Darlington Okoye, Hon. Barr. Michael Anichukwu, Hon. Mbah, Hon. Uchenna Okorie, Hon. Dr. Peter Chukwu, Chief Hon. Nick Mbah, Hon. Kennedy Egbo and the Town Union President of Nomeh-Unateze, Hon. Dr. Chukwudi Anyianuka, commended Governor Mbah’s leadership and his administration’s attention to the community.
They declared their support for the APC, with the gathering repeatedly echoing the declaration: “Nomeh 100 per cent APC.”
The campaign attracted an array of political leaders and stakeholders, including Hon. Paul Okwor, Deputy Chairman, Nkanu East LGA; Hon. Chinedu Mbah, DG, G17 and SSA to the Governor on Market Liaison; Hon. Martins Agbo, former Deputy Chairman, Nkanu East LGA; Hon. Barr. Ngozi Ogbonna, former Deputy Chairman; Hon. Barr. Mrs. Angela Ngene, former Deputy Chairman; Hon. Patrick Okoh, APC State Treasurer; Hon. Nnamdi Nwafor, APC Zonal Chairman, Enugu East Senatorial Zone; Hon. Arinze Arum, Chairman, Enugu State Lottery and Gaming Commission; and Hon. Monday Diamond, Chairman, CSDA, Enugu State.
The Ije Awele Movement and other support groups also joined the mobilisation.
Adding a cultural dimension to the political gathering were performances by Udokamma Cultural Group, Di Bu Ugwu and Nzukoka Cultural Group, whose displays transformed the rallies into celebrations of both community identity and political solidarity.
By the end of the day’s engagements, the political message from the two communities had become unmistakable.
Mburumbu pledged overwhelming support for the APC, while Nomeh declared itself 100 per cent APC.
For the APC in Nkanu East, the September 26 council election is therefore being positioned as more than a local contest. It is being presented as the first major electoral test of the political structure expected to carry the party into 2027.
As the drums gradually fell silent and the campaign train moved on, the message from Mburumbu and Nomeh remained clear: support for Governor Peter Mbah, support for Ogbuekwe, support for the APC, and a renewed commitment to carry the momentum into 2027.
