ENGR. OGBUEKWE ASSUMES OFFICE AS NKANU EAST CHAIRMAN, PLEDGES INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, Mmiri Oma na Nkanu, has formally assumed office as the Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, pledging to make the welfare of the people, inclusive governance and sustainable development the focus of his administration.

Ogbuekwe assumed office on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, following his swearing-in at the Enugu State Government House, where he described the occasion as a deeply humbling and significant moment and the beginning of a new chapter of service to Ndi Nkanu East.

In his remarks after taking the oath of office, the new council chairman expressed gratitude to God and the people of Nkanu East for the trust and confidence reposed in him, while acknowledging the families, supporters, friends and stakeholders who stood by him throughout the journey.

He particularly expressed appreciation to the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his leadership, confidence and support, as well as to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and others who contributed to the electoral and transition process.

For Ogbuekwe, however, the conclusion of the political contest marks the beginning of a more demanding responsibility, translating the mandate received from the people into effective governance and tangible development.

The campaign is over. The mandate has been received, and now the real work begins, he said.

The chairman pledged to lead with an open mind and a listening ear, assuring Ndi Nkanu East that his administration would maintain broad engagement with traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, professionals, youths, women and other groups across the local government.

He stressed that the responsibility before him goes beyond occupying office, noting that the true measure of the mandate would be the ability of his administration to listen to the people, respond to their concerns and deliver meaningful development.

Ogbuekwe also called for unity and collective responsibility, stressing that the progress of Nkanu East would require the cooperation and contributions of all stakeholders, irrespective of political or other differences.

He said his administration would work with relevant stakeholders to advance the common interest of the people and harness the opportunities available to the local government for the benefit of its residents.

As we begin this journey, I look forward to working with all stakeholders towards the progress and development of Nkanu East. Together, we move forward. Tomorrow Is Here, he said.

The swearing-in formally marks the commencement of Ogbuekwe’s tenure as Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, with the new administration now moving from the politics of the mandate to the business of governance, service and development.
