The AIG gave the commendation during the commissioning of the 12 refurbished operational vehicles and the official launch of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Enugu State Police Command.

The police chief expressed appreciation to Mbah for his administration’s continued support for security infrastructure and initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property, noting that the restored vehicles would enhance police mobility, operational readiness and rapid response to emergencies.

According to the AIG, the vehicles were previously in deplorable condition before the governor’s intervention, which he said demonstrated a commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the police.

He noted that effective policing depended on sustained collaboration between government, security agencies and the communities they served.

On behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and the entire Nigeria Police Force, the AIG expressed gratitude to the governor, assuring him that the vehicles would be deployed effectively and responsibly in the discharge of police duties.

The AIG also acknowledged the Inspector-General’s commitment to operational efficiency, proactive policing and improved responses to violent crime, describing the establishment of the VCRU as part of efforts to strengthen the police force’s capacity to tackle serious criminal activities.

He said the launch of the specialised unit in Enugu was timely and strategic, as it would promote a more coordinated, intelligence-driven and responsive approach to policing.

According to him, the unit is expected to focus on preventing violent crime, protecting vulnerable persons, responding swiftly to emergencies and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal acts are brought to justice.

The 12 refurbished vehicles, he added, would improve patrol coverage, facilitate rapid deployment to crime scenes and strengthen intelligence-led operations across the state.

He described the restoration of the vehicles as more than an improvement to the police fleet, saying it represented the recovery of valuable operational assets and an expansion of the command’s capacity to safeguard residents.

The AIG charged officers assigned to the VCRU to uphold discipline, professionalism and respect for human rights, stressing that police personnel must operate within the law and remain accountable in the performance of their duties.

He also urged officers to treat members of the public with fairness, dignity and respect, emphasising that public confidence remained essential to effective policing.

The police chief called on residents of Enugu State to support the new unit by providing credible and timely information, cooperating with lawful police operations and remaining vigilant against criminal activities.

He stressed that security was a collective responsibility requiring public trust, community participation and sustained cooperation among relevant stakeholders.

The ceremony, he said, represented a renewed commitment to strengthening security operations and making Enugu State safer for residents, investors and visitors.

The AIG expressed confidence that the VCRU, supported by the refurbished vehicles, would contribute to crime prevention, reduce violent incidents and improve the protection of lives and property throughout the state.

He subsequently invited the designated officials to join him in formally commissioning the vehicles for operational use by the Enugu State Police Command’s response unit.

The event was attended by security officials, representatives of government, members of the legal and media professions, traditional institutions, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
