Enugu North LG Chairman Dr. Onoh Inaugurates 13 Councillors as Udom Emerges Legislative Leader

The Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, has inaugurated 13 councillors into the council’s Legislative Arm, with Hon. Udom Chukwuemeka Emmanuel emerging as Leader of the House.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Enugu North Local Government Secretariat, featured the administration of the oath of office by the council’s Legal Adviser, Barr. Obinna Onuigbo.

Hon. Udom, who represents Ogbete West Ward Six (Coal Camp), emerged as Leader of the Legislative Council, while Hon. Nnamani Ifeanyichukwu Monday, representing Ihewuzhi Ward Three, emerged as Deputy Leader.

Other principal officers include Hon. Orji Sebastine Chukwuebuka, representing Iva Valley Ward 12, as Majority Leader; Hon. Ifeoma Onwuasoanya, representing New Haven Ward 10, as Deputy Majority Leader; Hon. Ozokwor Vera, representing GRA Ward Seven, as Chief Whip; and Hon. Virginia Chidera, representing Chinatown Ward Nine, as Deputy Chief Whip.

Speaking after the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Onoh charged the newly inaugurated councillors to remain accountable, prioritise the needs of their constituents and promote grassroots development in line with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s Tomorrow Is Here vision.

In his acceptance remarks, Hon. Udom expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the opportunity to serve the people of Enugu North. He also commended Governor Mbah for creating opportunities for young people to contribute meaningfully to governance and public service.

The new legislative leader further appreciated Dr. Onoh for his leadership, mentorship, trust and guidance, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in him.

Acknowledging the contributions of the immediate past councillors, Hon. Udom urged his colleagues to build on the foundation they had laid, foster unity within the House and remain committed to effective representation and the welfare of their constituents.

The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Hon. Echezona Ugwu; the Secretary to the Local Government, Dr. Chukwuemeka Aroh; the Enugu North APC Chairman, Hon. Ernest Onuoha; the former Leader of the Legislative Council; former councillors; and other party stakeholders.
