The distribution, which took place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, formed part of the university’s commitment to improving teaching, research, institutional efficiency and the overall working environment under the 2025 NEEDS Assessment and 2026 Special Intervention programmes of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Among the items presented to Deans of Faculties and Heads of Departments were scientific equipment, ergonomic chairs, office tables and other administrative materials. The University’s Public Relations Unit also received a Canon EOS R video camera to enhance its media, documentation and public communication activities.

Presenting the items, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, disclosed that the university management had earmarked one of the two Hummer buses provided under the NEEDS Assessment intervention for the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

He expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arc. Sonny Echono, and the management of the Fund for their sustained support to ESUT, observing that their interventions had continued to make a remarkable difference in the university’s development.

Describing the relationship between the institution and the Fund, Professor Okolie declared that TETFund had made ESUT a home.

The Vice-Chancellor attributed the university’s growing access to TETFund interventions to the confidence it had earned through prudent resource management, accountability and the judicious execution of projects. He noted that the institution’s record of responsible utilisation of intervention funds had strengthened its relationship with the Fund and positioned it to attract further support.

In another development, Professor Okolie announced that ESUT had secured TETFund’s approval for the construction of a new concrete laboratory to be domiciled in the Department of Civil Engineering, a development expected to strengthen practical training and research in the engineering discipline.

He charged the beneficiaries to ensure the proper utilisation, maintenance and security of the newly supplied equipment and facilities, stressing that institutional investments must translate into measurable improvements in academic delivery and operational effectiveness.

Beyond the TETFund-supported interventions, the Vice-Chancellor unveiled additional infrastructure and security initiatives being pursued by the university management. These include the installation of 300 streetlights across the campus, the procurement of two mini-buses and 12 motorcycles to enhance security operations, and the completion of the Works Yard project, which has received the approval of the University’s Governing Council.

Earlier, the Director of TETFund in ESUT, Dr. Onyekachi Egwuagu, disclosed that the university had also secured approval for the refurbishment and rebranding of its Engineering Laboratory, alongside the installation of a 60KVA solar power system to guarantee a more reliable electricity supply to the facility.

He explained that the scientific equipment distributed under the intervention programmes was specifically intended to strengthen teaching, practical instruction and research activities in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Departments of Civil Engineering and Geology and Mining.

The development inspection also provided an opportunity for the university management to assess ongoing infrastructural projects and evaluate the progress of institutional investments.

Accompanied by the Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Okey Oji; Director of Physical Planning, Professor Francis Iloeje; Chairman, ESUT Ceremonials Committee, Professor Titus Enudu; Director of Grants and Scholarships, Professor Emeka Nzeh; Director of Sports, Chief Moses Ogbodo; Director of TETFund, Dr. Onyekachi Egwuagu; Director of Municipal Services, Dr. Thomas Onah; Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Jonathan Okolie; and Chairman, Technical Committee on Security, Obinna Ogbodo, among other university officials, Professor Okolie inspected ongoing projects at the Faculty of Social Sciences building and the Senior Staff Club.

The team also visited the university’s Printing Press, where they inspected and test-ran newly installed industrial equipment.

The latest interventions reflect ESUT’s continued efforts to leverage strategic partnerships and institutional resources to improve its academic environment, strengthen research infrastructure, enhance campus security and provide staff and students with facilities capable of supporting a more productive university system.
