The project, executed under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES 2.0) programme, features a water-harvesting system, treatment plant and other essential water supply facilities designed to provide residents with sustainable access to clean and safe drinking water.

The intervention marks a significant milestone in grassroots development and demonstrates how responsive governance and community-driven initiatives can translate pressing needs into tangible results within a remarkably short period.

The timely delivery of the project underscores Governor Mbah’s commitment to people-oriented governance, following his prompt intervention and provision of the necessary budgetary support that facilitated its execution.

Upon completion, the project is expected to improve access to potable water, reduce the burden of water collection on households, enhance hygiene and sanitation, and mitigate water-related health risks, particularly among women, children and other vulnerable groups.

The successful implementation also reflects the commitment and collaboration of the Community Project Management Committee (CPMC), whose active participation, cooperation and sense of ownership were instrumental in actualising the community’s identified priority.

Their contribution further reinforces the importance of community participation, transparency, accountability and collective responsibility in the successful execution and sustainability of development projects.

The commissioning ceremony attracted prominent political leaders, traditional rulers and community stakeholders, including the Executive Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Hon. Brendan Emeka Ani; the Member Representing Isi-Uzo State Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Gabriel Eze; Hon. Azubuike Onah; and the traditional ruler of Ikem Community, HRM Igwe Felix Ogbuke.

Also in attendance were the President-General of Ikem Community, as well as women, men, youths and children from the community, who turned out in large numbers to celebrate the landmark achievement.
Speaking at the event, community members expressed profound joy and appreciation to Governor Mbah, whom they unanimously described as a “Promise Keeper” for fulfilling his commitment within three weeks.

Residents noted that Ikem had endured decades of water scarcity, describing the new intervention as a historic relief that had brought an end to years of hardship and renewed hope to the community.

The presence of political leaders, traditional institutions and other stakeholders further underscored the collective support for the state government’s grassroots development agenda.

The commissioning of the Ebia water project stands as another testament to Governor Mbah’s commitment to bringing essential social amenities closer to the people through CSDA.

It also highlights the impact of effective collaboration between government and communities, demonstrating that with responsive leadership, timely intervention and active community participation, meaningful and sustainable development can be achieved.
