ADC Enugu West Candidate, Juliet Ani, Warns Onyema Against Claiming Senatorial Ticket

…Insists she remains party’s recognised candidate, threatens legal action over alleged impersonation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Enugu West in the 2027 general election, Juliet Ani, has cautioned OAU Onyema against parading himself as the party’s candidate, insisting that she remains the recognised flag bearer of the party for the district.

Ani, in a statement, said although she had taken note of the court judgment relating to the matter, she maintained that the ruling contained no directive ordering the substitution of her name with that of Onyema.

She further declared that even if she were to withdraw from the senatorial race, she would not relinquish her ambition in favour of an individual she described as a card-carrying member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Questioning Onyema’s legal interpretation of the circumstances surrounding the candidacy dispute, Ani argued that, as a legal practitioner, he ought to be conversant with the provisions of the Electoral Act governing participation in political party primaries and eligibility to contest elections under another party.

She alleged that Onyema had participated in the NDC senatorial primary election, lost the contest and subsequently sought to secure the ADC ticket, a development she described as inconsistent with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The ADC candidate warned that any further attempt by Onyema to publicly identify himself as the party’s senatorial candidate would leave her with no option but to seek legal redress over what she characterised as impersonation.

“From now henceforth, any further impersonation, I have no other option than to sue you in court for impersonation. This is the last warning,” she declared.

Reaffirming her position, Ani maintained that she remained the ADC senatorial candidate for Enugu West Senatorial District, adding that her name was still reflected on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.

She concluded her statement with a caution to Onyema and other interested parties to be guided by her position, reiterating her claim to the party’s senatorial ticket.
