
The Awgu Local Government Area leadership, led by Chairman Hon. Uche Okolo and Deputy Chairman Hon. Dr. Stanley Ezediuto, has made a significant impact in empowering girls and promoting education. Yesterday 11th October, 2024, the council organized a commemorative event to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, highlighting the importance of girls’ empowerment and education.

The event, held at Girls Secondary School Mgbowo, was sponsored by Deputy Chairman Hon. Dr. Stanley Uchenna Ezediuto and was a resounding success, thanks to the partnership with Comrade Obinta Juliet, Director of Gender, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). This collaboration demonstrated the leadership’s commitment to creating a brighter future for girls in the community.
During the program, emphasis was placed on three essential rights: Access to Education, Safety and Protection, and Opportunities to Thrive. These rights are crucial for girls to reach their full potential and become leaders in their respective fields.

Hon. Comrade Obinna A. Okpara praised the Awgu LGA leadership for their efforts in promoting girl-child education and women’s roles in society.
He encouraged students to stay focused on their studies, emphasizing the importance of education in achieving their goals.

The Senior Prefect of Girls Secondary School Mgbowo, being the host school, expressed gratitude to the leadership of Awgu Local Government led by Hon. Uche Okolo, his Deputy; Dr. Ezediuto, and Comrade Obinta Juliet for the initiative.

Comrade Obinta Juliet urged Nigerians to support girls’ education and empowerment, stressing that by listening to their voices and providing resources, we can create a world where girls thrive. Her call to action resonated with the audience, inspiring collective responsibility.

In a thoughtful gesture, the event featured the distribution of sanitary pads and toilet tissues to promote personal hygiene. This practical support demonstrates the leadership’s dedication to supporting girls’ well-being and addressing their basic needs.

The event acknowledged the efforts of the key students Stakeholders and executive including Comrade Obinta Juliet, Director of Gender, NANS; Deputy Chairman Awgu LGA; Dr. Ezediuto, Hon. Comrade Obinna A. Okpara; Former SA to Awgu LGA Chairman on Student Affairs and Comr. Peace Nzekwe, Awgu Local Government Area Students Association Vice President.
