NURSING SCHOOLS TO BE UPGRADED TO COLLEGE OF NURSING IN ENUGU STATE

Nursing schools in Enugu state are to be upgraded into college of Nursing offering Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates in Nursing services, public Health and Midwifery.

This was made known by the Special Adviser to the Governor on health, Dr. Yomi Jaye when he hosted the management of Enugu State Hospital Management Board comprising the Acting Chief Executive officer, Dr. Chinyere Ezeudu,Director of Pharmaceutical services, pharmacist Eloka, Director of Laboratory services Scientist Ebere Nnaji, Director of Works, Builder Chukwuegbo, Director of Accounts Mr. Ajah, Director of Administration Mrs. Ndidi Nwigwe,Director of Nursing services,Mrs. Nwadimkpa Philomena and the Public Relations Officer of the Board Offonabo Chimdike; in his office on Friday, 11th October 2024.

Dr. Jaye emphasized that the upgrade was made possible by the efforts and commitment of His Excellency the Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah; who Dr.Jayer described as ‘A big dreamer’ who cares about the health and wellbeing of ‘Ndi Enugu’.

He stated that the Nursing council of Nigeria has increased Enugu state quota.

He reminded the team that Dr. Mba’s administration has commenced the construction of Enugu International Hospital, a 300 bed multi specialist world class facility which will absorb some of the graduates from the institutions.

Dr. Jaye encouraged the management of the Board to work as a team with a high level of commitment following the legacy of Dr Eric Odoh, the former Executive chairman of the Board.
The Special Adviser equally noted that remarkable improvements are already in place with more facilities, commitment to work by the staff of the Board hence the increase remittances from these facilities.

He reminded them that he has an oversight function on the Board activities and will do his best to make sure that the tempo is sustained.

In response, the Directors gave a brief on the gains and challenges they faced in their various departments ranging from Logistics, under staffing, moribund equipments, staff training and welfare, security in facilities, working tools and Drug revolving Fund (DRF).

The SPA demanded a comprehensive list of what each department needed to make their job easier to sustain the existing achievement.

The team leader and the acting Executive Chairman, Dr. Chinyere Ezeudu thanked and appreciated the SPA for his Interest in the Board affairs, she promised him that the management of the Board will maintain the gains made in the secondary healthcare system in the state.

In his closing remarks Dr. Yomi Jaye encouraged the Management team not to play politics with their positions but to work with human face in their approach to work ensuring compliance while punishing offenders.

He promised continuous collaboration to increase efficiency in service delivery.
