Anthony Chukwudi Nwankwo(JP), the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, and member representing Awgu South Constituency, Enugu State House of Assembly has lauded Governor Peter Mbah for the successful presentation of the 2025 budget. The budget, tagged “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity,” proposes an unprecedented N971 billion for the fiscal year, marking a significant leap in the state’s development agenda.

The 2025 budget proposal allocates a record-breaking N837.9 billion to Capital Expenditure, representing 86 percent of the total budget, while Recurrent Expenditure is set at N133.1 billion.

Hon. Nwankwo commended the governor’s strategic emphasis on education, which has been allocated over 33 percent of the budget for the second year in a row. He praised the focus on building a knowledge-driven economy, describing education as a crucial element in eradicating poverty and laying a strong foundation for sustainable development.

“Governor Mbah’s vision and commitment to transforming Enugu State, despite the prevailing economic challenges, are commendable,” said Hon. Anthony Nwankwo. “The increase in Internally Generated Revenue from N37.4 billion in 2023 to an impressive N144.7 billion by September 2024 clearly demonstrates his administration’s determination to drive fiscal independence and reduce dependency on federal allocations.”


Hon. Anthony Nwankwo further assured the public of the Assembly’s commitment to a swift and diligent review of the proposed budget. He emphasized the legislature’s readiness to work in harmony with the executive branch to facilitate the early passage of the budget, which is expected to propel Enugu State towards greater economic stability and inclusive growth.
