M5 UNITY CUP 7TH EDITION OPENING MATCH: EZIOHA FC AND ALECHARA FC PLAY OUT THRILLING 2-2 DRAW

The 7th edition of the M5 Unity Cup Sponsored by Dr. Princeton Akachukwu Steve Akachukwu (Kpakpando) kicked off with a colorful opening ceremony, attended by several dignitaries, including Major General F.O Azinta Rtd, Hon. Dr. Stanley Uchenna Ezediuto (Deputy Chairman of Awgu LGA), IGWE John A. Ibeh (Traditional Ruler of Ekpulambo Mgbowo), Igwe Greg Ituma (Traditional Ruler of Ekpulato Mgbowo), Mr. Cletus Azih, Barr. Jude Collins Azih, Mr. Belushi, Mr. Stanley Odenigbo, and Hon. Bona Onunta.

The ceremony, which took place at the picturesque Mgbowo Stadium, began with a football kick-off by Major General F.O Azinta Rtd at exactly 4:12 pm.

In his closing remarks, Gen. Azinta emphasized the importance of unity and sportsmanship in developing Mgbowo. He commended the players, promising promotions for those who performed well and hinting at more improvements to come next year. Gen. Azinta also urged the teams to embody the spirit of “nwanneship” rather than otherwise.

Other notable attendees, including Igwe John Ibeh of Ekpulambo, commended the organizers, players, and traditional rulers for their efforts in making the event a success. The chairman of the M5 organizing committee, Hon. Bona Onunta, also gave a vote of thanks, wrapping up the ceremony on a high note.

The match between Ezioha FC and Alechara FC was a testament to the skill, determination, and sportsmanship of both teams. The defending champions, Ezioha FC, drew first blood with a stunning goal from Anelka at exactly 15 minutes into the game.

However, Alechara FC equalized through a brilliant effort from Marshal at 29 minutes, ensuring that the score was level at 1-1 at the end of the first half.

The second half was just as intense, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Ezioha FC regained the lead through a clinical finish from Ikenna at exactly 51 minutes into the second half.

However, Alechara FC refused to give up, and they were rewarded with a penalty kick at 58 minutes. Chinenye stepped up to take the kick, and he made no mistake, slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to level the score at 2-2.

The match ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw, with both teams giving it their all. The result leaves the defending champions, Ezioha FC, with a tough road ahead as they strive to retain their title.
