His engagements with international and local stakeholders reflected his administration’s focus on transforming the state through strategic partnerships, policy reforms, and infrastructural development. From agriculture to revenue generation, security, political reconciliation, and education, the governor’s activities reflected a hands-on approach to governance.
One of the highlights of the month was the visit of the Consul General of the Royal Danish Embassy, Jette Bjerrum, and a delegation of Danish government and business representatives. The discussions centered on investment in Enugu’s smart schools, agricultural value chains, waste-to-energy projects, and healthcare initiatives. The governor’s presentation of the state’s economic potential resonated with the delegation, leading to a partnership with ODK Group for tractor procurement and plans to establish a local assembly plant in Enugu. With over 300,000 hectares secured in the state’s landbank and the Farm Estate initiative taking shape in all 260 electoral wards, agriculture remains a key driver of economic growth.
Further strengthening Enugu’s business climate, Governor Mbah signed the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service Law, effectively putting an end to multiple taxation. This legislation consolidates tax collection into a single system, eliminating the harassment of traders and business owners by unauthorized revenue agents. By streamlining taxation, the state government has enhanced the ease of doing business, ensuring that all payments are centrally processed and transparently managed.
The governor’s meeting with Mr. Massimo De Luca, Head of Cooperation at the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, reinforced Enugu’s growing relationship with global development partners. Discussions focused on power and infrastructure, particularly renewable energy projects like small hydro-power generation and solar-to-health initiatives. These projects align with the administration’s broader strategy to improve healthcare, education, and economic opportunities for the people of Enugu.
Security remained a top priority, with the governor hosting the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Oluyemi Thomas Olatoye. During their meeting, he reiterated his administration’s proactive security measures, including deploying technology, strengthening community policing, and deepening collaboration with security agencies. The governor’s approach has led to a significant reduction in criminal activities, restoring investor confidence and enabling businesses to thrive.
The Enugu State Security Trust Fund Fundraising Dinner provided further evidence of the administration’s resolve to sustain security gains. The event, which brought together government officials, business leaders, and stakeholders, successfully raised ₦3 billion to support security initiatives. The governor acknowledged the efforts of the Board of Trustees and prominent contributors like Prince Engr. Arthur Eze (Ozoigbondu) in ensuring that Enugu remains a safe and stable environment for residents and investors alike.
The month also witnessed the South East zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) electing a new executive at Okpara Square. The re-election of Chief Ali Odefa as Zonal Chairman, alongside Hon. James Okechukwu Ugwu and other members of the Zonal Working Committee, reaffirmed the confidence reposed in their leadership. The governor, while addressing party faithful, reminded them that elections are not an end in themselves but a call to service. He emphasized that democracy leaves no room for excuses, and the primary duty of leadership is to prioritize the welfare and aspirations of the people.
His meeting with the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Engr. Kayode Olubunmi Ojo, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oguejiofor Ujam, and members of the Governing Council opened fresh collaborative pathways to enhance academic excellence, innovation, and development in technology, agriculture, and healthcare.
His leadership played a pivotal role in fostering unity within the PDP as he welcomed the PDP National Reconciliation Committee, led by former Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to Enugu. The governor emphasized the need for inclusivity and genuine reconciliation, recognizing that unity is crucial for future electoral success. His bridge-building efforts have inspired a wave of returnees to the PDP, reaffirming the party’s dominance in Enugu State.
With February’s engagements, Enugu State moves closer to achieving its vision of economic expansion, security, and political stability. Governor Mbah’s dedication to sustainable development, strategic partnerships, and effective governance ensures that the state remains on an upward trajectory.
