The Nigerian Senate has taken a significant disciplinary action against one of its members, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP Kogi Central), suspending her for six months. This decision was reached after the Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petition presented its report before the Senate plenary on Thursday.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to the report, presented by the Committee’s Chairman, Senator Imsuen, Neda Bernards (Edo South), Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension is a consequence of her actions in the Chamber last week. During the incident, she openly refused to move to a new seat allocated to her, accusing the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of deliberately denying her the opportunity to contribute to the day’s activities.
In addition to the six-month suspension, the Senate has also withdrawn all privileges accorded to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, including her salaries and allowances. Furthermore, she will be barred from accessing her office in the National Assembly, the premises of the National Assembly, and parading herself as a Senator in the 10th Assembly.
It is worth noting that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had shunned a meeting with the Committee on Ethics, which sought to query her actions. This development has sparked interest among Nigerians, with many awaiting further details on the matter.
