
In a bid to enhance emergency response and first aid capabilities, thereby reducing mortality rates in the state, the Enugu State Government has commenced a specialized Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Training for officers of the Enugu State Traffic Management Authority (ESTMA) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).

The training, taking place at the Enugu State Ministry of Transportation, is designed to equip ESTMA and VIO officers with the necessary skills to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies, potentially saving lives. This program will be conducted biennially, with quarterly refresher courses to ensure officers remain up-to-date with the latest emergency response techniques.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor, commended Governor Peter Mbah for approving the initiative, emphasizing that the training aligns with the government’s vision of improving public safety and service delivery. He encouraged participants to take the program seriously, noting that it would not only enhance their skills but also support their career progression within the civil service.

Also speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Yomi Jaye, highlighted the program’s significance in reducing mortality rates across the state. He noted that empowering frontline personnel, such as traffic and inspection officers, with life-saving skills would strengthen emergency response efforts and improve public health outcomes.

This initiative underscores the Enugu State Government’s commitment to capacity building, ensuring that its personnel are well-trained, prepared, and equipped to deliver efficient and life-saving interventions in emergencies.
