The Federal House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions has sought a partnership with the Enugu State Government to relocate the Enugu Correctional Centre. This development comes after the committee, led by Chairman Hon Chinedu Ogah, paid a working visit to Governor Peter Mbah at the government house in Enugu.

The relocation of the Enugu Correctional Centre is part of a broader plan to relocate 29 correctional centres across the country due to urbanization, as approved by President Bola Tinubu. This move aims to improve the facilities and services of the correctional centres, ultimately enhancing the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
In response, Governor Mbah commended the Federal Government for approving the relocation of the correctional centre out of the state metropolis. He assured the committee that the state government would provide assistance as needed and pledged to partner with the Federal Government in constructing the new correctional centre.
The Enugu State Government has shown commitment to supporting the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in the past. For instance, the state’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Lloyd Ekweremadu, had pledged to deepen partnership with the NCoS in the provision of sporting coaches and facilities to correctional centres.
