EDUCATION EMPOWERMENT: HON. ENG. ANAYO ONWUEGBU’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME MAKES WAVES AS OVER 100 STUDENTS MATRICULATE FOR NCE

Member Representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Lake Chad, Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, has made a significant impact in the lives of over 100 students who recently matriculated for the National Certificate in Education (NCE) programme at Enugu State College of Education and Technical (ESCET).

The students’ matriculation ceremony which took place in Enugu State College Of Education and Technical (ESCET) Arena, May 10th, 2025, marked a significant milestone in Hon. Onwuegbu’s efforts to raise literacy levels and provide a secured future for students from his constituency.

During the matriculation ceremony, Hon. Onwuegbu, represented by Sir Ephraim Offiah, commended the students for their hard work and dedication. In his speech, Sir Offiah highlighted the significance of the scholarship programme, stating, “Today, we gather to celebrate a significant milestone in the lives of these students. Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu’s scholarship programme is a shining example of his commitment to education and youth empowerment. As you begin this exciting chapter, I urge you to work hard and exhibit undeterred dedication towards your studies. Education is the bedrock of societal development, and we expect great things from you.”

Sir Offiah further emphasized the scope of the scholarship programme, saying, “I am proud to announce that this scholarship programme is not a one-off event, but a part of Hon. Onwuegbu’s larger vision to empower the youth in his constituency. We have already sponsored over 130 NCE, PGD, and NTI students, and recently, over 50 MSc students are now in ESUT under Hon. Onwuegbu’s scholarship. We believe in the potential of our youth, and we will continue to support them in any way we can.”

The College Provost, Dr. Stella Chinweudo Ekwueme, also addressed the students, urging them to embrace academic discipline, personal integrity, and responsible conduct. She highlighted the College’s zero-tolerance policy on cultism, drug abuse, and other vices, encouraging the students to make the most of their learning experience and contribute meaningfully to the academic community.

In a show of solidarity, notable dignitaries, including Hon. Obi Carl Kamah, former Commissioner for Science and Technology, and Senior Legislative Assistant to Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, lauded the lawmaker’s efforts towards revamping education in his constituency. Hon. Obi Carl Kamah said, “I commend Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu for his efforts towards revamping education in his primary constituency. I urge the beneficiaries to remain diligent with their studies and maximize the opportunity for a brighter future.” He also appreciated the school for its excellent academic records and affiliation with the University of Nigeria Nsukka, saying, “I appreciate the school for its excellent academic records and affiliation with a great school like University of Nigeria Nsukka. I urge the students to take their learning seriously and maximize the opportunity enough.”

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof. Oguejiofor T. Ujam, represented by Prof. Atamah, commended Hon. Onwuegbu for his education empowerment, urging other lawmakers to emulate his footsteps. The Honorable Commissioner for Education, ably represented by Dr. Mmuo, congratulated the newly matriculated students and urged them to be diligent in their studies.

Other reputable aides present were, Hon. Boniface Uchendu, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu, Hon. Peter Aja; Okaibe Michael; Hon. Chiedozie ; Hon. Obinna A. Okpara; Onyinyechi; Favour Ofoma; and Hon. Michael, Hon. Ogbonna Cletus among others.

The students, drawn from different political wards in Hon. Onwuegbu’s constituency, expressed joy and appreciation towards the benevolent sponsor for making their academic dreams a reality.
